Description

The nail or staple length will vary between nail guns so you may well want to compare this feature. Let’s assume you are looking to do some skirtings, architraves, some glazing bead, or any of the lighter second fix jobs you will not be disappointed by this gun. As you can see softwood or hardwood the pins disappear leaving only the tiniest mark as a trace. So it won’t matter what material you are firing it, you’ll finish cleanly. For something heavier the requires more hold like a window board I would look to the 18gauge range which we will review next. The Ryobi ONE+ Airstrike 18G is probably the best battery powered nail gun for 2 nd fix you can get hold of. It’s incredibly easy to use, takes a decent range of nail lengths, and can be set to continuous fire mode. If you choose a battery-powered nail gun you will need to factor in the cost of the battery and charger (unless you are going for a cordless Ryobi nail gun and already have other One+ power tools). I wish I had this for weatherboard on my shed – the time it would have saved, oh well hindsight and all that – another superb use I could get in was garden gates – look how neatly it finished the braces:

Mechanism to reload your headless pins is a simple but sturdy clip – notice the arrows to help you place pins the right way round This product will run for varying lengths of time depending on the battery used. The runtimes are as follows: This is a first fix framing nailer that takes nails of between 32 to 63mm. It has a magazine capacity of 110 nails and an angle of 20 degrees. The framing nailer can be used either in “bump” or sequential modes. Depth adjustment is simple due to the easy-to-read gauge. The nail gun also features LED lights with error notification. You can easily troubleshoot any problems and fix them with the tool-free jam clearing mechanism.I love the reload mechanism too. You simply release the clip in the picture below, insert the brads with the triangles conveniently showing you which way round (given the brads are headless you need that help) as you can see in the picture below: The best nail guns have selectable firing modes – sequential and continuous. Sequential fire means that one pull of the trigger, once you’ve pushed the nose up to the workpiece, results in one nail being fired. Continuous or “bump” fire, on the other hand, means that you can hold down the trigger and use the nose action to fire nails or staples rapidly. Features: Once I started thinking out the box I realised this is a superb bit of kit to hold fence panels together. I duly cut one down and rebuilt it with this pin gun. Have to say it beat a hammer and nails all day long. Very neat and tidy indeed:

It weighs just over 1 kg. It can still put staples or brad nails into wood without much effort at all. It’s probably the simplest little nail gun I’ve had a chance to use as well. There are no dials to fiddle with, it’s simply a case of load it up and get firing. Tool less depth of drive adjustment helps protect work surface and allows proper setting of nail heads One of the most respected specialist fastening brands out there, Tacwise have been making some of the best nail and staple guns for more than 50 years. This 53-13EL cordless nail and staple gun is a lightweight tool for small brad nails and staples. It’s more like a traditional stapler than a heavy duty nail gun. This DeWalt nail gun is mechanically powered which means you don’t need to use gas. This also allows the nailer to be used at a wider range of temperatures than gas-powered products. It’ll also save you money on running costs. The brushless motor is maintenance-free and long-lasting. The nailer is powered by an Li-Ion battery. This is a bare tool so the battery is not included, but this high-quality nail gun still makes extremely good value. The internal 4V battery is strong enough for lighter stapling and nailing jobs. It’s an ideal tool for an upholsterer or if you need to put up lots of posters. It’s not designed to replace a carpenter’s nail gun and can’t take 50 mm long nails, but it certainly beats a traditional manual stapler. As part of the Ryobi ONE+™ system of over 150 cordless tools for the home, garden, automotive, crafting and much more, the Ryobi 18V ONE+™ R18N18G-0 18G Nail Gun is perfect for binding soft and thin wood without splitting.

If you have large skirting, window board you want to fix down, architraves, and any general second fix work this gun is a big step up in power from the first 23 gauge pin gun and will hold timber very firmly. You could easily attach larger skirtings into a timber stud with this leaving practically no making good at all. It’s a very very accomplished bit of kit. Brian tells me he uses this on parting and staff bead on sash windows, putting trims on garden conservatories and all panelling. Light weight and robust construction are the two most important factors to consider when buying nail guns. Aluminium bodies are common, but you can find brad nailers with magnesium or plastic bodies too. They give you the Allen key in the event of a jamb which is neatly stored on the side of the gun itself. Brian reliably informs me that he has never had a jam on this little pin gun so no need to open it up, not even for a clean up and he has had this one for 6 months or so. He did however mention the odd pin will curl up and do random things based on the knotty timber – so always wear your goggles. I have to say when I fired it I was really impressed by the power and accuracy. The live of engineering to accurately fire one little pin off at a time is really impressive. Here’s a look at this gun in action – a short video of the Makita DPT353Z Pin Nailer You will be pleasantly surprised by the Ryobi ONE+ 18G AirStrike Nailer. Ryobi and relative newcomers to the cordless game and are playing each up with the professionals. Whilst this tool is far from a rounded and complete nailer, it does offer superb value for money and more than enough for your typical second fix at home. As part of the Ryobi ONE+™ system of over 150 cordless tools for the home, garden, automotive, crafting and much more, the Ryobi 18V ONE+™ R18N16G-0 16G Nail Gun is perfect for fixing wood trims, flooring and so much more. I didn’t run a battery out when using it all day but I did swap over at two bars – I felt as if I was losing power. I am not sure if this is the age of my batteries or not. I would say probably yes but it’s worth knowing as having two batteries is going to negate any downtime. The Dewalt DCN660N Brushless Framing Nailer is simply the best framing nail gun for first fix. It’s mechanical, fires up to four 16 gauge nails per second, and these nails can be up to 63 mm long.

German power tool brand Einhell have been making quality and affordable kit since 1964. Well established as a tool manufacturer, they’ve been impressing DIYers with their new line of cordless Power X-Change 18 V for a while now. The TE-CN cordless nail gun and stapler is an impressive device that does away with power cords, air lines, and anything else you might trip over. If you ask me, the most important development in power tool technology has been the Lithium-Ion battery. Power tools that would otherwise need long power cables are now as portable as a pencil and a hundred times more useful. Most battery-powered nail guns make use of 18V batteries that deliver plenty of power without adding too much weight to the tool. Just be prepared to pay for the privilege. Shots per Charge Using a 5.0Ah battery (not included), the Ryobi R18N18G-0 can drive up to 1900 50mm nail into pine on a single charge. This is a bare tool - battery and charger are not included. Features: Ergonomic and comfortable moulded handles are vital if you want to use a brad nail gun, so expect to see thermoset plastics and rubbers on the best brad nailers. Usage At the same time I wanted to show you how easily this gun pumps 40mm 18 gauge brads into hardwood. The gun reloads itself much slower than the smaller pin gun but that is to be expected as it has to wind itself up to fire. What I did notice when using it all day was the occasional misfire. It would make all the noises but not let go of a brad – every time this happened to me was when I was testing the speed. It clearly needs a chance to wind up so don’t rush it – no nee when it’s twenty times faster than a hammer and panel pins already and leaves far less damage on the timber. If you look closely this finish is a decorators dream, most will fill that with a dab of caulk, if that.As part of the Ryobi 18V ONE+™ system of over 200 cordless tools for the home, garden, automotive, crafting and much more, the Ryobi 18V ONE+™ R15GN18-0 Cordless 15-gauge finish nail gun is perfect for second fix applications such as installing skirting boards and door architrave, fastening door casings, crown mouldings, coving and much more. As much as cordless power tools have changed the face of DIY and what you can get done “off grid”, there’s nothing worse than waiting for your batteries to charge up. If you don’t need a battery-operated nail gun, then save yourself some money and go for a corded nail gun. You get all the power you need and there’s no waiting around when your last battery has gone past the red. Firing Modes
