Richard Lester managed to be as brilliant as a director like The Beatles were as a music band: witty, british, unpredictable, pop and fine and funny as only few can be. While the movie remained appealing, the issues with definition and edge haloes created some mild problems. The elements usually focused on the front, as the surrounds opened up with street noise, planes, and other mild effects but not much else. Although some reviews stated that only the USA version had these issues and not the UK manufactured ones.

Sony 36" WEGA KV-36FS12 Monitor; Sony DA333ES Processor/Receiver; Panasonic CV-50 DVD Player using component outputs; Michael Green Revolution Cinema 6i Speakers (all five); Sony SA-WM40 Subwoofer. The Beatles have never been as good on film as they were here, supported by an excellent cast (Oh, Elanor Bron). I had been wanting to add this to my collection for some time now but curiously, had never gotten around to it. At times it veers more into Beatles worship territory than actual documentation, but it reveals enough useful details about the flick to justify its existence. Altogether, this is a boxed set that belongs in every Beatles' fan's video library, and a perfect example of filmmaking from the mid-60s.there's too much emphasis on story and supporting characters and not enough footage of the Beatles being "themselves". Speech tended to be a little reedy and thick, but the lines always seemed intelligible, and they lacked edginess or other issues.

Actually, the film seems to improve as it goes along, as I definitely preferred the second half to the first.I have had the movie for years on DVD, but this is beautifully packaged, albeit annoyingly packaged. Each song sequence is shot in a different location and in a style that anticipates today's music video.

Considering that this was 1965 and a film whos audience was mainly teenage girls, the sight of Paul with no clothes on must have been virtually pornagraphic! The cult members, Clang (Leo McKern) and Ahme (Eleanor Bron), attempt to capture him and the chase is on.During the week or so we were there, a local drive-in ran a triple feature of FM, The Buddy Holly Story, and Let It Be. The touch and style of this movie, although perfectly representing its golden era (swinging london, free cinema, pop culture, all aspects so beautifully preserved thanks to a great BD transfer) makes it so stunning because you can appreciate how ahead of its time, daring, beautifully shot it was.
