Description

In a bid to stop the chaos caused by the rampaging God of Hammers, Odin Borson had Sif use the Bifrost to banish Mjolnir to the Void beyond the boundaries of the universe. However, Mjolnir escaped and returned to Earth in seconds. [5] Residents Ethical considerations do not seem to exist in the world of Outer Dark, while the fates of characters are not determined by the morality of their lives. The world of Outer Dark appears to be devoid of meaning, which can be seen in both the opening and closing scenes of the novel. In the beginning of the novel, the salvation and happiness promised by the prophet in Culla's dream never arrives. Instead, the world remains in cold darkness, unchanged. The last scene of the novel, in which a blind man walks off into the mire of a bog, is a paradigm for a dead-end, paradigmless world. [4] Reception [ edit ] This is set much longer ago (before cars) and tells several parallel and occasionally intersecting stories: a woman searching for her missing baby; her brother searching for her; a tinker travelling between towns, and a gang. Grey Harvest ( Sword-class Frigate) - The Grey Harvest is a Sword-class Frigate that was part of the White Maw's Escort fleet during the Zartak Campaign.

Indomitus Crusade (Unknown Date.M42) - The world of Budor V was home to the Imperial Castellus Sanctic citadel. During the Indomitus Crusade, the citadel was captured by a force of Heretic Astartes of the Word Bearers, who repelled numerous sieges led by elements of the crusade's Fleet Secundus, Battlegroup Betaris. When the Traitors' diabolists began to summon Daemons, they were all slain in a sudden strike by Carcharodons Astartes under the command of Company Master Mannfor, whose strike cruiser Ma-tahe had allied itself with Fleet Secundus, coming and going from the void as the company master willed. Rua (KIA) - Known by his combat designation, Beta-eight-three-Rua, Void Brother Rua served in the 3 rd Company, 4 th squad. He was killed in same ambush that killed Pahu.A travelling tinker finds the child and saves it. To hide his abandonment of the child, Culla prepares a grave, a deception Rinthy sees through, digging up the grave herself to find that no body is there. In game terms, this story appears to be a veiled attempt by Forge World to more or less reveal that the Carcharodons are, in fact, Raven Guard in origin, through both their appearance and the brutality that the original, ancient Terran-born Astartes of that Legion displayed.

Rinthy finally locates the tinker and confronts him about her baby. At first the tinker denies any knowledge of the baby but eventually leads Rinthy to his cabin. The baby is not there and Rinthy begs the tinker to take her there the next day. The tinker questions Rinthy about the baby and accuses her of abandoning it in the first place. She explains that her brother told her he sold it to the tinker. Rinthy finally confesses that the baby is the biological product of her and her brother. The tinker it disgusted with her and leaves, warning her not to follow or he will kill her. White Maw ( Tyrant-class Cruiser) - The White Maw is an ancient Exile-era Tyrant-class Cruiser. Its original design had been both rebuilt and expanded down the centuries. Most recently, it served the Carcharodons' 3 rd Company during the collecting of the Red Tithe on the Mining World of Zartak. It was also used two standard centuries later, when the Carcharodons' 3 rd Company had returned to the now Penal World of Zartak, when they fought against the invading forces of a Night Lords warband led by the Chaos Lord Amon Cull.

Older Carcharodons usually find it increasingly difficult to rest, even through the longer voyages. It is said that the eldest of their kind haven't used the tanks for Terran centuries.

Company Master Akia (KIA) - Former Company Master of the Carcharodon's 3 rd Company and Sharr's predecessor. After abandoning the child, Culla, trying to escape his sin, sets out across the country to find work. Appalachia, at the turn of the century (19th to 20th one). Rinthy Holme, 19, bears a son to her brother, Culla, who leaves the baby in the woods, telling her he died. A tinker has just passed their home; as she guesses the truth about the baby, she goes searching for him, and the tinker who she believes has taken him; her brother goes wandering, looking for work - through a countryside where three mysterious strangers walk, causing terror... That’s all horrifying in and of itself. What makes it especially difficult to bear, however, is the fact that the mother and father are sister and brother.

Success!

This is the author's second novel (1968), and the atmosphere of the old West lingers in this book... I also took notice of the language used, and some surprising Biblical things ones might find here. At first this book didn't feel like much, but then it got going, and more intense.
