Description

Is it the fact that the people involved in their manufacturing are paid fair wages and have good working conditions? All the materials they use are ecological. A heavy duty felt is used for the upper and lining in a fabric that is certified as 100% recycled by the Global Recycling Standard office. Each shoe is made from at least 2 recovered bottles. Rather than using leather for the soles, these are made from natural latex rubber. The soles are then handstitched on for increased durability. The product is vulcanised without the use of glues or solvents, thus reducing pollution and harmful waste Using plastic bottles collected from the Ocean, various processes are used to turn these into the fabric from which their slippers are made. They use local Spanish factories which are all highly committed to reduce the environmental impact of shoe production, by using traditional techniques and handcrafted processes. These initiatives therefore not only clean the oceans but also help to preserve the planet.

The company is a World Fair Trade Organisation, employing and providing a fair wage to Nepalese artisans, as well as providing financial support for local orphanages. How are Egos slippers made? Mercredy is a brand crafted in Spain, with sustainability at the heart of its mission. Produced in local Spanish factories which are all committed to reducing the environmental impact of their production, they use traditional techniques to handcraft beautiful felted slippers and removing tons of plastic waste from the ocean. Fairtrade stands for better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for workers in the developing world.

#Enjoying Mercredy Classic Mule Slipper

The summer range is now made with sustainable Tencel. Meanwhile, the old plastic sole has been replaced with one made from Pura-Latex™ rubber. This natural material is responsibly sourced from the Hevea tree and is also 100% recyclable. Egos Copenhagen are a Danish brand that produces colourful felt slippers. Following a classic Danish design that values simplicity and functionality, they are made by some of the world’s best felt workers in Nepal, using raw sheep’s wool from New Zealand. The signature bright and colourful designs are achieved using raw wool from New Zealand sheep and eco-friendly dyes. After the dyeing process, the wool is carded and shaped around a last to create the iconic clog shape. The artisans use soapy water to massage the wool so that the fibres cling to each other, and then the slippers are dried in the sun. Another layer of felt is used to add more comfort and warmth to the slipper before the suede sole is hand sewn on. What are the benefits of Egos slippers? As one of the poorest countries in the world, the need for development in Nepal is huge and Egos Copenhagen believe that the best way to contribute to this is to provide good and lasting jobs to the people of Nepal. Mercredy has a Global Recycled Standard certification. The GRS is an international product standard that looks to verify the recycled content of the products and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices of production.

Looking for a pair of eco-friendly or ethical slippers? Good news – I’ve rounded up my favourites for you! From vegan-friendly slippers to recycled slippers and slippers that can be recycled at the end of their life. I had a pair of Baabuk slippers which I wore non-stop for around 5 years. I found them really cosy, and the sole was robust enough to allow me to pop out to the compost bin! Eventually (and inevitably, after such prolonged hard labour!), they developed a hole in the sole, which I couldn’t repair. However, I would definitely buy a pair again. Baabuk, a certified B-Corp, make cosy ethical and eco-friendly slippers. These are made from fully traceable mulesing-free New Zealand merino wool, which is processed using only soap and water. The answer is deeply personal to each of us, and it relates to what we value most. In an ideal world, all of these conditions would be met, but alas there will always be a need for compromise. Mercredy slippers are made from recycled plastic bottles recovered from the ocean. The bottles are ground into small fibres, cleaned and spun into yarn which is then woven into the felted uppers. Each pair of Mecredy slippers is made from at least 2 recycled bottles. The outsole is made from 100% recycled rubber. What are the benefits of Mercredy slippers? From the very beginning, itwas important that all work be conducted under fair working conditions and that workers would be paid a decent wage for their work, and in 2009Egos were certified by the World Fair Trade Organisation. Mecredy slippers are made from lightweight, durable fabric. They are super comfortable and breathable. They have a removable, soft padded insole that cushions your feet for extra comfort. The non-slip outsole is also made from 100% recycled materials. These heavy-duty slippers are comfortable, sustainable and suitable for vegans, and of course, you can wear them knowing your down time has a positive impact on the environment. Whilst not vegan, all its wool slippers are now made from ReWooly™ felt. This is a Global Recycling Standard-certified fibre that contains at least 50% recycled wool fibres from clothing that would have otherwise headed to landfill. Working Day' means Monday-Friday, and as such we do not dispatch or deliver on weekends or Bank Holidays. UK As well as providing stable jobs to artisans in Nepal, Egos also provides financial support to orphanages in Kathmandu and have been involved in various development projects.
