Steam Events

The Pumping Station is in steam 8 times a year on the dates listed below with all engines running including the James Watt beam engines, the Linby colliery winding engine and miniature railway. Please note that the steam plant is very old and therefore we cannot guarantee everything will be running and, although rare, break downs can occur!

Underground Reservoir Tours

We also offer tours of the underground reservoir during steam events which run every half hour from 11.30am – 3.30pm. An additional charge of £2 per adult and £1 per child aged between 5-16 applies and spaces on the tour bus are limited to 20 people per tour. Please note that the number of tours per day may be reduced or increased depending on visitor demand. Tickets for the tours are purchased from the Superintendent’s House on the day of visiting.

When not in steam the Pumping Station is open to the public every Sunday for a limited number of hours, please see times below. Please note that the Pumping Station is NOT open during the week except for pre-booked group visits of 15 or more people.

A chair climber is available for traversing the porch steps. If you are thinking of visiting us please click here to view our Access Statement.
