And in that time I wore it almost every day for the whole day. In earlier versions of the script, Arwen fought in the Battle of Helm's Deep and brought the sword Andúril to Aragorn. Some scenes of Arwen fighting in Helm's Deep were filmed before both the film's writers (with Liv Tyler's approval) reconsidered the change and deleted her from the sequence. [14] The critic John D. Rateliff wrote approvingly of the deletion of what he calls "Arwen, Warrior Princess", even though it came "at the cost of reducing her to a sort of Lady of Shallott languishing for most of the final two films". [15] Sauron uses the Palantír to show Aragorn a dying Arwen (a scene from the future) in the hope of weakening his resolve. [10]

So, first conclusion is that PJ made up the name. Second, there are 2 references to something that remotely resembles the stone. Isn't The Silmarillion just AWESOME? anywho, Arwen's ability to decide on a 'mortal' fate instead of an 'immortal' fate roots simply from her heritage. The stone/star have nothing at all to do with it. Due to the above this is a product I\'d not recommend to anyone as it will upset the owner of it the same way it did upset my partner as it was not her fault but the quality of the piece that caused it.Arwen Undómiel is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. She appears in the novel The Lord of the Rings. Arwen is one of the half-elven who lived during the Third Age; her father was Elrond half-elven, lord of the Elvish sanctuary of Rivendell, while her mother was the Elf Celebrian, daughter of the Elf-queen Galadriel, ruler of Lothlórien. She marries the Man Aragorn, who becomes King of Arnor and Gondor. Riel Radio Theatre — The Lord of the Rings, Episode 2". Radioriel. 15 January 2009. Archived from the original on 15 January 2020 . In the extended version, Elrond asks Arwen, in Elvish with English subtitles, to accompany him to safety in Valinor, away from Middle-earth. [13] Tolkien, J. R. R. (1955). The Return of the King. The Lord of the Rings. Boston: Houghton Mifflin. OCLC 519647821. Arwen, daughter of Elrond, in whom it is said that the likeness of Luthien had come on earth again; and she was called Undómiel, for she was the Evenstar of her people.' The Tolkien scholar Dimitra Fimi comments that the procession of Elves in the scene "Arwen's vision" in the extended version borrows visually from the "Celtic" imagery of John Duncan's 1911 Pre-Raphaelite painting Riders of the Sidhe. [12] Yet maybe this will lighten your heart,' said Galadriel; 'for it was left in my care to be given you, should you pass through this land.' Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of a clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring. 'This stone I gave to Celebrian my daughter, and she to hers [Arwen]; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the House of Elendil!Arwen said: "Dark is the Shadow, and yet my heart rejoices; for you, Estel, shall be among the great whose valour will destroy it."

For those of you who don't know, Elrond's father was Earendil was married to Elwing who was daughter of Beren and Luthien, a man and an elf, and Earendil was also half elven, because he was son of Tuor and Idril. This means all their ancestors could choose to be immortal like the elves, or mortal and have an extended life. Obviously Elrond chose to be immortal but his brother Elros chose to be mortal (and is one of Aragorn's ancestors which is why Aragorn is 87). Arwen gets to chose as well, so not all elves can chose to be mortal, only the ancestors of Earendil. Earendil had a silmaril and sailed west and kind of became a star (read the Silmarillion for a full history) which is why Galadriel talks about "... Earendil, our most beloved star..." .

As related in The History of Middle-earth, Tolkien conceived the character of "Elrond's daughter" late in the writing. [T 13] [T 14] Prior to this, he had considered having Aragorn marry Éowyn of the royal family of Rohan. [T 15] [2]
