Vera comes to Harbour Street to investigate the death of Margaret Krukowski and we follow her lumbering footsteps into one of the creepiest and suspicious sounding places where everyone has a secret and no one wants to talk. Mardle wasn’t a place for tourists, even in the summer. There was nothing beyond the fisheries except the harbour, enclosed by the wall. The boats there were dark shadows, half-hidden by the drifting flakes. SPOILER: And like almost all Vera episodes, there is always some bat-shiat crazy woman or two to cause all the trouble. I can't wait to see the rest of season 4, to see if its always a crazy woman.

The scene is just before Christmas on crowded train when Margaret Krukowski, an elderly elegantly dressed woman, is stabbed to death. Yet, it seems no-one saw the murderer, even though Joe and his daughter Jessie were there on the train at the time. Weekly Top 10 Programmes: ITV+1 w/e 8 May 2011". Broadcasters' Audience Research Board . Retrieved 2 July 2011. I didn't expect the final reveal. Those cleverly disguised dead ends had me completely fooled, which is just the way I like it. But Harbour Street is one of those books that you don't want to finish, because the journey has been so engrossing and enjoyable, and I was sorry to say goodbye to Mardle." Ann is the author of the books behind ITV's VERA, now in it's third series, and the BBC's SHETLAND, which will be aired in December 2012. Ann's DI Vera Stanhope series of books is set in Northumberland and features the well loved detective along with her partner Joe Ashworth. Ann's Shetland series bring us DI Jimmy Perez, investigating in the mysterious, dark, and beautiful Shetland Islands... The body of teenager Ethan Dewley is found floating in a reservoir. When Vera and her team discover that Ethan had been missing for three days, they look to a rural timber community for answers.

Why a Booktrail?

Supported by her team Vera must use all her tenacity and instinct to expose the deep rift at the heart of this fractured family and ultimately solve two murder mysteries. Vera must unravel a tangled web of deceit between two wildly different families when the body of a teenage boy is discovered floating near a Northumberland salmon farm. Very interesting episode as Vera and Joe endeavor to find out why anyone would want to kill this old lady, whom they learn is named Margaret. It turns out that she has quite a past, and also a friendship with another woman, Dee (Tilly Vosburgh), an alcoholic Margaret helps.

Cleeves also has this annoying tic where whenever the point-of-view character asks a question, you'll have a bit of interior monologue where they explain exactly what they're thinking. It underestimates both the quality of her writing and the intelligence of the reader, and once you've noticed it, you can't ignore it (sorry for inflicting it on you now). In October 2015, filming brought the sleuth to the High Level Bridge while the previous month she was on Whitley Bay beach. The discovery of skeletal remains in Hollowthorp Woods leads to Vera re-opening the case of a seventeen-year-old school girl, Carrie Telling, who went missing some thirty years earlier. Found with the body's remains were a camera, a company credit card and a telephone number for an abortion clinic. When another murder occurs, it becomes apparent to Vera that the killer is somebody who had something to hide thirty years ago.Vera is confronted with the sight of Caden Lennon's murder, by knife, in a coastal town's shipyard. The teenager had absconded from his support worker's care six weeks previously but, with few leads, Vera looks into a gang connection and discovers a drugs network. Harbour Street” is another wonderful book by Ann Cleeves, with a complex, twisty plot, including one major twist at the end. If you’ve not read her before, it’s not too late to start. This book more so than the others felt like a lot of visiting the same group of people for food and gossip, while the settings are well drawn, there seemed less direction to much of it. No one really stood out. Forensics as usual just a footnote and evidence non-existant.

Heaping praise on her stunning surroundings and the region as a whole, Brenda said: "“I do love the North East. Everyone is so friendly. I will certainly continue to visit the area once Vera has finally hung up her hat. I’d recommend anyone to go. It’s just lovely." Weekly Top 30 Programmes: ITV w/e 29 April 2012". Broadcasters' Audience Research Board. Archived from the original on 15 December 2012 . Retrieved 8 May 2012.The first episode was set on the Farne Islands and saw Vera take the sea air as she travelled over there by boat from the mainland. And the actress told how the experience was a new one for her too, and she came in for quite a soaking. This is the sixth book in the Vera Stanhope series and it opens on a snowy day in Northumberland, just before Christmas.
