Relocating its operations to the heart of the city centre, where it all began in 1965, is a clear signal of its continuing commitment to being a significant contributor to the economy and reputation of the north-east in the long term. Just Stop Oil protestors were showing support for Extinction Rebellion’s “Better without Barclays” campaign which is taking place across the country.

Hailing the move as “the next chapter in Shell’s long and successful history in the city”, he added: “Our first office opened on Union Street in 1965 and in 2018 we marked 50 years of production in the North Sea. Bond's Aunt Charmian drives an identical Bentley to one Bond drives in Casino Royale and in subsequent books. Bond also inherits his uncle's 1.5 liter Bamford & Martin Sidevalve Short Chassis Tourer. Bamford & Martin later became Aston Martin. This panel has been tested and designed to be supported by the Ti-generic and the Ti-vertical carrier system. Preformed units are available up to 250mm in length. We have tested Ultralite to CWCT test guidelines for Standardized Building Envelopes 2005 for wind resistance, water resistance as well as hard and soft body impact resistance where it obtained category “B”. We also carried out petrographic testing at Taywood Engineering, now Vinci UK for the likes of flexural strength, freeze/thaw, water absorption, and bond adhesive strength.

‘Just what that area needs’

Thankfully, the same isn't true for the young James Bond. I really like his character in this book. In fact, even though Bond is a fictional character, I couldn't help feeling a sort of wistful sadness that such a nice young man was going to grow up into a Roger Moore, swaggering jerk of a guy. Max Bond is James' uncle in this novel. He is described as old and feeble but proves that he still has much energy and can relate to James in many ways. Max once discusses his days as a spy with James. I think that he would be one of the reasons James eventually took up that career path, despite that Max discouraged James from taking up spying, I expect that at the time James found the stories exciting rather than frightening. James' uncle seems to crave James' company, perhaps because James reminds him of his own youth. He teaches James to drive, making the cheeky promise that if James took care in not crashing his car on his first drive, he would give it over to the boy when he died. I was again given the impression that the character Max was based on a real person because of the vivacity and warmth of his personality, perhaps a father figure of the author's. The U.S. edition of the book was edited to remove descriptions that were considered too racy for young readers. One such example includes a description of Wilder Lawless's legs during a tussle between herself and Bond. The move has been widely welcomed by city centre chiefs, who say it will increase footfall to the many retailers, cafes, restaurants and businesses in the area and act as a catalyst for further generation of the West End of Union Street.

The move marks a return for the company, which first established an office on Union Street when it set up shop in the city in 1965. What I had learnt from this novel was that everyone was, once young. It helps put life in perspective, to envision adults I know as children or my friends and I growing up. Also, I learnt much in the way of vehicle function from this novel; there is a chapter when James learns to drive, when a car engine and the processes that are undergone within one is explained thoroughly. A company spokesperson said: “Shell has a clear target to become a net-zero emissions business by 2050. He added: "We are delighted to be returning to our roots in the city centre with the completion of our move into the Silver Fin Building. Shell said there were none of its employees in the building at the time, adding that it respects “the right of people to protest and express their point of view”.In 2004, it was announced that Higson would pen a series of James Bond novels, aimed at younger readers and concentrating on the character's school-days at Eton. Higson was himself educated at Sevenoaks School where he was a contemporary of Jonathan Evans, current Director General of MI5. The first novel, SilverFin, was released on 3 March 2005 in the UK and on 27 April 2005 in the U.S. A second novel, Blood Fever, was released on 5 January 2006 in the UK and 1 June in the U.S. The third novel, Double or Die, was published on 4 January 2007 having had its title announced the day before. The next, Hurricane Gold, came out in hardcover in the UK in September 2007.[3:]In this year he also made a debut performance on the panel show QI. His final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was released in hardcover in the UK on the 3 September 2008.[4:] Local business leaders were invited to the new office for the opening ceremony, overseen by Shell's North Sea boss Simon Roddy. The ceremony was also attended by influential business icons such as Sir Ian Wood. This includes the creation of an urban garden and significant refurbishment of the Chapel Street car park." In an update on LinkedIn, Shell senior vice president for UK upstream Simon Roddy said the question of whether the company had moved yet is “probably the most frequent question I am asked by friends and colleagues in Aberdeen and beyond.”

The main character of this book is James Bond, while he is still a teenager and progressing through school. It was interesting to read the detailed descriptions of his sporting life at Eton- namely running - and how it was embedded in his character. I think that this aspect was deprived from the author's own experience because of the amount of depth that goes into the description and emotions felt by the character.

The move will also bring increased footfall to the many retailers, cafes, restaurants and businesses in the area and act as a catalyst for further generation of the West End of Union Street as we look to a positive post-COVID future. The company says the location, which already houses the headquarters for Barclays bank in Aberdeen as well as several other major corporations, will provide staff with a modern workplace fit for the future.
