If this crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on our screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 40 x 60" (1 x 1.5 meters). In this case, you're seeing the texture of the silver paint on the watch face. Just because it is inexpensive and does not take high-resolution images does not mean it is useless. Given the very limited zoom ratio, it is quite a slow lens in terms of how much light it can gather, but it is still a standard for kit lenses. This is by no means a weather-sealed lens. You should avoid shooting in heavy rain and dusty conditions. On the other hand, I was shooting with it for two weeks in the Canary Islands and Oman (including in deserts), and I did not observe any dust/sand getting into the lens. Autofocus Speed and Accuracy Nikon says forget it on any of the D1, D2, D3 or D4 series, the D800, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70 series, D60, D50, D40 series, D7000, D5100, D5000, D3200, D3100 or D3000. It also won't work on any 35mm camera. Maximize the use of natural lighting. It is everythinggggg in photography, especially if you’re a newbie. You can use soft shade, direct sunlight, and shadow to illuminate the subject’s excellent features.

Maximize the focal length of the 55mm while zooming into your object. Consequently, this reduces the maximum aperture to f/5.6. In this case, ensure you have enough natural light. I could go blind trying to see any real differences. Any apparent differences turn out to be variations in focus. Macro gets super close; you can fill the frame with the face of a watch. You need no separate macro lens. The 18-55mm is an excellent example of a variable aperture as it contains a range in aperture size. While in a fixed aperture (prime) glass, the aperture width depends on the focal length. AF is essentially instantaneous, possibly the fastest focussing Nikkor I own, and it's this fast even on the basic D3300.

Ease of Use

If you’re a beginner, I would highly recommend Mark Hemmings as your instructor (specifically, the Digital Camera Mastery course). In this review, I will focus on comparing the latest AF-P version with the older AF-S VR II version. Just for the sake of highlighting the progress of the last two generations, I also include the 2007 generation in the following comparison table: Feature Kit lenses have some useful features too, like image stabilizers, which are also known as vibration reduction on some camera models. This feature allows you to take photos at a slower shutter speed, and this is especially great for taking images in low light.

AF speed is passable. It's not very fast, but I've never needed it to be faster for photographing friends and family. While a great camera plays a significant role in bringing out a great image, it is essential to consider choosing a beautiful image in this case, given their quality for better results. Silent stepper motor, super-fast. If you're in a silent environment and hold your ear to the lens, you will hear a slight hum as it focuses. The filter ring does not rotate as you zoom. It does move in and out, being the shortest at 30mm setting. It's the same as the 18-55mm AF-S II, which is excellent. I focuses as close as a few inches away from the lens and can fill the frame with something as small as 2 x 3" (50 x 77mm). While it sounds like Expert Photography is for more advanced photographers, that’s not the case. They mostly have beginner to intermediate level courses, eBooks, etc. On better quality glass, the autofocus is fast and has no noise. Kit lenses also don’t have a wide maximum aperture, which is mainly because of the associated costs. The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens doesn't ship with either a lens hood or a bag. Auto-focus

It has only the very slightest green-magenta fringing in the corners at the wide end on a D200 or other older camera. It will be invisible in normal use and is better than the 18-200mm VR. Nikon's "P" series of NIKKOR lenses use a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) to focus smoother and quieter than previous drive systems. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video. However, the 18-55mm is not your best option for professional purposes. You will struggle to get bokeh, and the lens will not get sharpness around the edges. Doing direct same-camera, same-subject, same time comparisons, it's the same as the 16-85mm VR, 18-200mm VR and 18-55mm AF-S- II. I compared at at 18mm and 55mm, both wide open and stopped down. This is why they are cheap, and they are deliberately made this way by manufacturers because there is so much competition, so they try to keep their camera’s price down by using inexpensive plastic materials. Lobstermania, 08 August 2016. Nikon D3300, Nikon 18-55mm AF-P at 31mm, f/4.2 hand-held at 1/13 at Auto ISO 12,800, Perfectly Clear. bigger.

At closest focus distance at 55mm. ( Nikon D3200 set to SMALL BASIC JPG (3,008 x 2,000 resolution), f/8 at 1/250 at ISO 100.) The lens will default to VR on when attached to models released prior to the D3400: D3300, D5500, D5300, D5200, D7200, D7100. These cameras will also require a firmware upgrade to access the menu to turn off the VR. Manual focus is a kludge. You have to jam the A — M switch to M, and then try to twiddle the front of the lens. If manual focus is important to you, spend three times as much on the 18-200mm VR.If you don't use in-camera correction, it has strong barrel distortion at 18mm, moderate distortion at 24mm and none from 35 to 55mm. No switches; VR and AF/MF now controlled in camera menus (but you can just grab the ring any time for instant manual-focus override).
