Once the old varnish is removed, any flaking areas of paint will be consolidated. This means they will be re-adhered to the canvas as a protective measure, using careful conservation techniques. This is the part where a bit of artistic ability may come in handy, but if you blended the fibers well from the other side, there won’t be too much to blend in from the front. {{Unfortunately, I forgot to video or photograph this part of the fix, where I painted the tear, but there wasn’t a whole lot to do, so you didn’t miss much. No matter how careful we are with our artwork, canvas paintings can get damaged. Some of the most famous paintings in the world have sustained damage over the years and have needed repairs made to the canvas. What at first can seem like a complete disaster, is in fact usually repairable, so let me show you how to fix a damaged or ripped canvas painting. This huge bronze sculpture with its twinned crescents was made in the year of the moon landing. Hepworth talked of looking at the moon and sun through the holes that pierced her sculptures; explorations of inner and outer space. It conjures thoughts of modern and ancient worlds. SS In this post I will show you how to repair a canvas painting whether it has been ripped, torn, or has a hole or puncture. It’s easy if you have the few supplies needed and I will give you step by step instructions. Mix your colors then hold your brush near the torn area to see if you are close. Keep mixing until the color is just a bit lighter than the original paint color. Remember, it will dry a bit darker then what is on the brush.
