As I'm trying to declutter and Marie Kondo my way through our house, I wanted a little extra motivation and checked out this book. We may never be able to achieve a fraction of her success and influence, but the example of her generosity and unflagging attempts to use her hard won fortune to do good will inspire all of us to do just that bit more to leave the world a slightly better place than we found it. Found the start of this book with the 'Kinder Train' bringing Jewish children to home in the UK, really interesting. Fortunately, Peter doesn't go crazy with tons of psychological test questions in this book; I remember seeing 4 or 5 short, easily-graded ones. Otherwise, there are decluttering books out there that get to the point far more quickly, and are less touchy-feely.

In our minds, objects become inextricably tied to the times and places where they were used – as well as to the people they were used with.It did motivate me to go through all of the mementos from elementary-high school/college and beyond that I’ve been keeping and decide what’s really important. It starts with this central idea: As you look around the rooms filled with the stuff you have to process, the hurt or confusion you feel about getting rid of some of it is not about the stuff.

Eine sehr inspirierende Lebensgeschichte einer Frau, die Feminismus und Nächstenliebe vorlebt wie wenige andere. Through several different angles, he really helps move you from being totally attached to being able to let go and keep the things that really matter. Let go of the following things to be more authentic and open and true to yourself: Things you never really liked, things, you regret paying so much for, Stuff you inherited and hold onto out of a sense of obligation, and outdated belongings that represent a version of yourself long gone. As her freelance computer company became more successful she committed to giving away more and more of the profits and especially to causes that would enable to others to make more of their lives. We struggle with scaling back our possessions because it evokes uncomfortable emotions and tough life-questions. But Furlong’s style of narration provides calming reassurance with respect to a process that is emotionally fraught for many people. The highlight of the story is definitely the journey that Elsa and Anna undertake to find their way to each other and rediscover their relationship as sisters! With 100 prompts, it guides you on a journey to let go of your feelings, bringing relief and lightness as weight lifts.

Walsh’s thinking was deeply influenced by his first-hand experience of downsizing his childhood home after his parents passed away. It is an interesting book and I learned a great deal about the pioneering days of computer tech (in some ways it's a good companion piece to Edward Snowden's Permanent Record) but that's not what I found most rewarding about the book. In the book, she relates the triumphs, the struggles, the setbacks, and the rewards of building a company. He was very high on what today we consider a spectrum as he lost all ability to speak and his behaviour became extremely challenging.I imagine most readers will come out of this wishing that the book could have replaced the movie’s plot! Whether you are selling your family home, blending households into a new home, or cleaning out your aging parents’ home, sorting through a lifetime’s worth of accumulated possessions can be a daunting and stressful experience.
