Peter James has also penned another series of books, a duology titled Max Flynn, and tens of standalone novels. Incidentally, Roy Grace series consists of 13 main books. There are also two minor works. James’ tenth book in the Roy Grace series has two other related anthologies; the first anthology is written by multiple authors, including Peter James, and edited by David Baldacci; the second anthology, which is also an installment in Inspector Rebus series, was authored by Peter James alongside Scottish penman Ian Franklin. It's not long before Niall is arrested on suspicion of Eden's murder – but it doesn't take DS Roy Grace long to figure out it's not what it seems. Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of the award-winning Grace series, now a major BRITBOX series. Book 18 is no exception. I was suprised and sad to read Roy's son Bruno died but happy to see he's still very happy with Cleo and his growing family.

His interests include criminology, religion, science and the paranormal, as well as food and wine. He has written many restaurant columns. He is also a self-confessed "petrol head," having owned many fast cars over the years, including four Aston Martins, AMG and Brabus Mercedes, a Bentley Continental GT Speed and two classic Jaguar E-Types. He holds an international racing licence, and has in the past competed in the Britcar series in both a Honda Accord and a former British Touring Car Championship SEAT Toledo. His 1965 BMW 1800 Ti, with his co-driver Steve Soper, came 10th overall in the St Mary's Trophy in the Goodwood Revival in 2013. James currently races a 1962 C1 Corvette and a 1964 Mini Cooper S. He has donated two police cars to Sussex Police, which bear his name, and a police car to States of Jersey Police.James is deeply fascinated by the many different kinds of police work, especially how it tends to change over time. His research on the Grace novels, he claims, has given him insight into the daily life of a detective. What are the Roy Grace books all about? Peter J. James (born 22 August 1948) is a British writer of crime. He was born in Brighton, the son of Cornelia James, the former glovemaker to Queen Elizabeth II.

I've never read or listened to a Peter James book before and can categorically say that this will be definitely the first of many. I have however attended an online library book session where he was the speaker and read a chapter of a previous book and I thought it sounded pretty good, but had not yet got round to reading one, so when I spotted this on Netgalley, I was very keen to read and leave a review. I loved it - and the narrator of the audio book -Daniel Weyman was absolutely brilliant and really did it a justice. If I was to compare the similarity of the writing to another author, it would be to Jeffrey Archer another favourite of mine, as he always writes a very thorough and totally engrossing book. James has also served two terms as Chair of the UK Crime Writers Association, and is also a board member of International Thriller Writers in the United States. What’s next for Roy Grace? A farmer is killed when confronting intruders who complete the successful robbery of some unusual items. Organised criminal gangs have identified a new market and are willing to do what it takes to make money. Roy Grace is determined to stop it. Picture you Dead by Peter James is the 18th book in the series and another great book in the series. You may be able to read this as a standalone book but there is some parts of the story that is involved bit from the last book. S reading the others is recommended. The ninth novel in the Roy Grace series, Dead Man’s Time, also starts out in the familiar surroundings of Brighton, a place where fans of Peter James’ work feel safe and familiar. However, as Grace investigates the brutal robbery of an elderly widow further, it takes him on a path throughout Europe and into the United States of America. It is a slight departure for the series, as they do tend to focus more on the familiar locale of Brighton, but that is what makes Dead Man’s Time a real stand out in the series, and it shows Peter James is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone of the familiar to write a great Roy Grace novel.DS Grace will set off on a trail that leads him from the shady antiques scene in Brighton to Europe and New York as he pursues the killer.

When a woman's body is found in a Brighton bath, DS Roy Grace is called to the scene. Though it initially seems pretty straightforward, a sudden turn of events reveals the case to be much more sinister and complicated than he could have imagined. Overall, this is a highly entertaining read with an especially enjoyable focus on art which has me intrigued throughout. Roy Grace and his team soon find themselves plunged into the deadly world of fine art and the Kipling's world will be changed forever but it may not be the dream they envisioned. Grace isn’t focused just on finding the murderers. He’s also focused on finding enough evidence, of the right kind, to ensure an effective and lengthy conviction. This again leads to highlighting details some writers skim over. It sounds dry, but in fact it’s an absorbing insight into how real police officers think.

In 2017, James wrote the foreword for the UK edition of The Crime Book, with American crime author Cathy Scott writing the foreword for the US edition. [5] The nonfiction book, a volume in the Big Ideas Simply Explained series, was released by Dorling Kindersley ( Penguin Random House) in April 2017 in the UK and May 2017 in the US. As will Sandy, I don’t know if there’s a forgiveness for what she did, but it appears we are going to be given a chance to find out, as at the end of this book, it’s said ‘Sandy’s story’ will be the next book to come out. The novel presents a solid crime story. Although the broad form of the novel offers no surprises, there’s an interesting angle on the crimes being investigated, and the wealth of investigative detail will absorb crime fans.

Discover the darkness that lurks around every corner in the latest instalment of the award-winning Grace series, now a major ITV series. My only reservations are it’s a bit over explained especially at the start and there is some repetition, however, once it gets going this issue fades away. I do have a little titter because as per usual the author gets gait analysis into the plot. - he sure loves that! James explained that, in his experience, a majority of policemen and policewomen enjoy their work, even though they have to work insane hours, deal with the bureaucracy, and face horrible tragedies, as well as the internal politics of the system. But he also explains that those experiences are the reason that police workers look at the world differently than everyone else. The first Roy Grace book, Dead Simple, was released in 2005 by Pan Macmillan. The tagline read, “Four bodies, one suspect, no trace. The first case for Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.” From there, the story begins with a prank gone wrong. Michael Harrison disappears into the big city without a trace.

Book 6 | Dead Like You

A: The first book in the Roy Grace series is called Dead Simple, which focuses on a stag party gone wrong. Overall, Stop Them Dead is a highly entertaining, disturbing, edgy thriller by James that once again highlights his exceptional ability to write police procedurals that have well-drawn characters and timely storylines. It is the nineteenth novel in the Roy Grace series and definitely one of my new all-time favourites. This explanation gives a very helpful insight into the mind of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a new kind of detective who is going through turmoil in his own life, as well as trying to prevent it from happening in the lives of others. The nefarious villains who became embroiled in the story were implausible and their attempts to steal the painting were ridiculous in the extreme.
