The story moved at a fast pace and gave us a lot of different players in the game. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect and trying to figure out just what was going to happen before it did. I liked that there were a lot of different parts to the story that came together and connected different pieces of the puzzle. It never felt like too much going on for me even though there were a lot of different things happening at once and even some of the past coming forward and being connected to new parts of the case. When Val Sorensen of Burke Broussard Private Investigation Agency is assigned as Elijah's bodyguard, she realises she also has a very personal connection to the gang thought to be behind the attempted kidnap - a run in with Sixth Day cost her brother his life. Like with the first book, despite the length, there was not enough relationship development, or romantic tension to make the relationship between Kaj and Val feel meaningful. I felt disconnected to their romance story because of this.
