Description

Please note that OBS is third-party software. miniDSP is not able to directly provide support for this software. For questions or issues specifically related to OBS, please refer to the OBS Forum and its online tutorials. Next stage is to configure the ASIO source. We'll select the miniDSP ASIO driver(previously installed) and follow the below example configuration. As a standard USB audio microphone, UMIK-2 is compatible with any software. The following proven platforms with plug&play integration. The scale at the right of the graph is the phase values. Since we are not looking at phase in this app note, this can be ignored.)

The Options screen can be used to set options, such as octave or third-octave display, frequency weighting, response time, and whether or not the display scales automatically.Did you definitely have the correct calibration file for the orientation of the microphone in each case? Getting this wrong for one of the microphones could cause this sort of difference I think. The UMIK-1 is an omni-directional USB measurement microphone providing Plug & Play acoustic measurement. How did you position your microphone for each measurement? Just asking because the highest frequencies will be most sensitive to small differences in where the microphone is located.

NOTE: if you can't see the miniDSP ambiMIK-1 VST from this list, it's most likely because you didn't copy over the VST files in the correct folder as it will search the plugin in the following folders. Make sure to copy the VST files into one of these folders. Make sure to configure the plugin to binaural audio output. See the ambiMIK-1 manual for other settings you might want to modify. You can easily confirm that the VST plugin works as it should as only 2 channels will now become active under the Audio Mixer. The following links contain additional information on room acoustics and measurement that you may find helpful: I own some Earthworks M23, M30 and isemCON EMX-7150 as well as the dbx RTA mic, and the aforementioned Behringer. I also regularly use very expensive B&K mics and preamps. For most field work, I use the three Sonarworks mics I own, because they’re good enough for 90% of the audible range and multi-mic measurements are the way forward. Upon opening SignalScope Pro, it will detect the presence of the connected UMIK-1 and query you for its serial number: Recall that we applied smoothing to the graph. An in-room measurement has a lot of reflections that create peaks and dips in the frequency response. Above 250 Hz or so, much of this is not relevant to what we hear, so for full-range measurements, 1/3 or 1/6th octave smoothing is generally used. For graphs limited to the low frequency range (up to say 300 Hz), use 1/24, 1/48 or no smoothing.

Why is the graph so uneven? Shouldn't we have a flat frequency response? Mostly, it's because of the room. Room modes (resonances) and reflections in a room act to make a nice flat loudspeaker response into a roller-coaster. At this stage, the ambiMIK-1 should be live and ready to stream audio as you'll notice from the RMS meters in the Audio Mixer section. Make sure to use the ambiMIK-1 gain utility (see user manual) to modify the internal gain for proper signal as you speak/play music... The yellow section from -20~-10dB is what we'd typically recommend. This plot shows that there are slowly-decaying resonances around 26, 30, 57 and 74 Hz. With this type of graph, you may need to adjust some display parameters on the Controls and Limits popup windows to get the most useful and informative plot.A dialog box will prompt you to name the source. We'll call it ambiMIK-1 for the purpose of this demo. At this stage the steps to start your YouTube/Facebook/Twitch Live stream or recording a local stream will be similar to any stereo content. If you're not familiar with setting up OBS for Youtube/Facebook live, we recommend you follow some of the great step by step guides to get you started knowing this is a common question. Here are some great examples: You're now up and running with the ambiMIK-1 streaming into OBS. Next stage is to configure the Dirac Live VST plugin so we're converting the ambisonic signal from the 4 mic capsules to a binaural signal one can enjoy with a headphone. 3. Configure the ambiMIK-1 VST plugin [Top] Note: the distortion components may include distortion from the microphone, so take care in interpreting these results. miniDSP offers products that can be used to equalize a system or apply full-range room correction, such as the nanoDIGI 2x8 (digital in-out, parametric EQ), miniDSP 10x10 HD (multichannel analog in-out, parametric EQ), and OpenDRC-DI and OpenDRC-AN (digital or analog in-out, FIR filtering and room correction). Note that equalization for room correction should generally make use of multiple measurements over the listening area, as measured response will change with microphone position.
