About this deal

Though, I’m not going to say it makes the game easier; it does give you more first places to go, though, which is pretty helpful. HABA is internationally known for producing German quality wooden toys and award-winning games; many of which were developed by Educators and NeuroScience Professionals to help incorporate crucial areas of learning into play. These rules only allow a player to select one to two animals based on the number that fall (one animal if one falls or two if two or more fall).

While I don’t think Animal Upon Animal is a great 2-player game, I do think it’s a great game that excels at kids having fun while they learn. It’s possible that that’s going to be a point of frustration, but, you know, it’s just worth knowing. I particularly appreciate that the pieces are fairly chunky; similar to Topito, another stacking game I’ve played, I think that makes them easier to grab and manipulate for players with a bit less manual dexterity.

Our company philosophy is based on one simple principle: Children are the most important things in life. Just make sure your attempts to do so don’t cause those bad boys to start sliding and topple the mountain. There’s no real player interaction beyond the animals you get assigned at fewer than four players, and other players don’t have a major impact on your game beyond placing animals that you have to deal with. Animal Upon Animal gives the kids a fun distraction that will test their motor skills and help improve them as they play. I have to admit that many kid games nowadays are dripping with educational overtones so much that you are not having fun but being forced to learn.

Next to the attention and affection from their parents, the most important thing children need is well-conceived toys designed to foster skills at their specific age group, encourage imaginative play and, above all, to let them have fun. There’s about all there is to this game in terms of rules, but its simplicity and sheer charm is bound to keep you coming back to it, however old you are!Means we should be covering Karuba the Card Game, Valley of the Vikings, and Dragon’s Breath, before too long. I thought it was the type of game that would be quickly outgrown, but Elliot is showing me otherwise. If one or two animals fall off because a player tried to stack, then that player has to add these animals to their animal total. Like other HABA rule books, the design uses straight-forward language, just the right amount of diagrams, and most importantly is easy to digest and learn which makes teaching even easier.

These kid pleasing details are etched into the animal, which helps little fingers grip and each animal comes with a smile. Unlike Catch the Moon, there aren’t any clever positions you can really create to start building braces for future structures. A few years ago, our friend Chrissy wrote about how Animal Upon Animal teaches physics; kids will start to place an animal, then stop and think about other ways to place it that might work better. On your turn, you roll a die to determine which action you must take: will it be adding one or more animals to the pyramid in the middle, or will you get lucky and be able to offload one of your pieces onto someone else or place it on the table to extend the base? In Animal upon Animal: Crest Climbers, you’ve taken your animal-stacking passions to new heights, literally. No sooner has the frog hopped onto the back of the kangaroo than the hedgehog gets ready to jump up and join him.

Stars – A fun dexterity game that will help all players of all ages learn or sharpen their stacking and placement skills. Final Thoughts: Only issue with the animals is that the detail is one-sided which may frustrate young players. Animal Upon Animal Junior keeps the DNA of its big brother without dumbing the game down or making it less fun. Please note that this service can not be used for oversized items (dimensions greater than 61 x 46 x 46cm) and these will need to be sent by a courier. Content: 29 wooden animals (1 crocodile, 4 flamingos, 4 monkeys, 4 toucans, 4 snakes, 4 camels, 4 sheep, 4 tortoises), 1 die with symbols, set of game instructions.

By the third play he finally understood the finesse needed (mainly because he was not winning) and you’d thought he was handling Faberge eggs. If you’re an experienced player, I think you can still have a fair bit of fun with this one, but if you’re looking for a game for your newer gamers to dig into, Animal upon Animal: Crest Climbers might be right up your alley!
