About this deal

The exhibition ‘Givenchy: Thirty Years’, which ran from 11 May to 2 October 1982 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, took place a year before the retrospective dedicated to Yves Saint Laurent at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Every haute couture collection is represented, as are ready-to-wear collections from the arrival of John Galliano onwards.

Among these surprises, the reader will discover that Hubert de Givenchy was the first couturier whose work was celebrated by a major museum in his lifetime. Over his career he has worked with every leading national newspaper in the UK and is a long-standing contributor to The Sunday Times , the Financial Times and Grazia magazine, and was an important contributor to the International Herald Tribune .He is the Fashion Features Director of AnOther magazine, and the Men's Critic of the Financial Times newspaper. After initially focusing on accessories, she presented the house’s first fashion collection in 1988, quickly transforming Prada into one of the world’s most influential luxury brands.

Each collection is introduced by a short text unveiling its influences and highlights, and illustrated with carefully curated catwalk images. This feat was repeated on 19 May 2018, when Givenchy became the first French fashion house to have designed a wedding dress for a member of the British royal family. Reflecting on his experience of contributing to the book, Madsen is keen to stress the value of fashion critique as documents of a changing world. Showcasing hundreds of spectacular clothes, details, accessories, beauty looks and set designs – and, of course, the top fashion models who wore them on the runway, from Naomi Campbell and Gisele to Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.

He has curated exhibitions such as ‘Margiela Galliera 1989–2009’, as well as ‘Back Side, Fashion from Behind’ in Brussels and then the Musée Bourdelle. The early years of the designer from 1952 to 1955 left me pleasantly surprised,’ Samson tells Wallpaper*.This is the ultimate and only edit of Moore’s work throughout his career and covering the changing face of the catwalk. This epic volume offers a history of catwalk photography and why it is now an integral part of fashion.
