When it opened in 1958, it was the first new distillery to open in Speyside since the great whisky crash of 1898. There’s that red apple again, then a hint of black banana, wood polish and richer, dark fruits – blackcurrants, damsons and super-ripe plums.The distillery rose from the ruins of an old mill on the banks of the River Isla, famed for its pure water and leaping wild salmon.
