Astonishing for its candid depictions of gay sex in the early 60s, it is important that this novel was rediscovered and published. Yet Hyatt declines to use Leda’s homosexuality as device to shock the audience; while it would be too much to say Leda is proud of his sexuality, he certainly isn’t ashamed of it or himself. Brimming with wishful acts, up until today I’ve always accepted the fact of a little fantasy in my life, but never felt that this fantasy acknowledged my reality.
