Weight is 370 grams, so depending on which headphone you're coming from, this can take some getting used to (i. For frequency response reference, you can see the RAW measurements for both Analytical and Balanced pads from autoeq graphs. Overall, with some modifications to the ear pads, the DT 1990 Pro remains a secure and comfortable headphone on the head. Plugging the DT 1990 PRO into my laptop (and even iPad) let me hear what was going on just fine, but I had to crank to volume to 100% on those devices just to get to what would normally be around 70%. This is the latest iteration of the DT design, with more touches of refinement to this tried-and-true design.

maybe had a little more energy than it should, making some singers sound nasally, and some instruments (electric guitars and brass instruments mostly) sound somewhat “honky. This is really the only stumbling block for the DT 1990 in my opinion, and I think it is simply due to the age of the design in an era where headphones are getting more advanced with their ear chamber designs (think Sennheiser HD700 or HD800, and the Audioquest Nighthawk). Those headphones just approach every single tune just like your CPU in a computer does calculations. I will get right off the bat with this, the only other Beyerdynamic I've demoed (very briefly), is the DT 770 - and that was many monsoons ago.

If you're coming from something like the HD6X0 series, this is on the opposite side of the signature spectrum. While a balanced sound is produced via the standard vinyl ear pads, the interchangeable leatherette ear pads provide an analytical sound instead. The DT770 pads with the DT1990 turns them into darker bass cannons, which still keep a decent amount of detail and space. Furthermore it allows for lighter components for improved comfort, ideal for long listening sessions. One point though, I find there is less masking effect with the 6kHz dip, so I can sort of determine micro-details slightly better on the BP than the AP.

The DT 990 Pro was already a very well put together headphone with the durability of the tank, and thankfully, the same is true for the DT 1990 Pro. The bass and midrange is about as neutral as headphones get, and you can hear this in the song Moon River by Frank Ocean.Firstly, the 1990 has a 102 decibel-per-miliwatt sensitivity, so it is surprisingly easy to drive loud.

Altogether, these changes increase the DT 1990 Pro’s bass’s presence, depth, and sense of definition. Power and precisionPower and precision are critical requirements when it comes to sound reproduction. The only complaints I have for comfort is that the clamp force on these is a little high out of the box, and it put a bit of stress on my jaw. Boasting a visually stunning design, the DT 1990 Pro Headphones deliver an open, circumaural design that enables the headphones to provide a vast and spacious output without losing the natural attributes of the sound source. The AP has it's treble cranked up too much, bleeding into in the midrange that voices become a bit lispy or raspy. For midrange, the DT1990 is more linear, while the M70X has this extra weight on upper-midrange that gives female vocals more body (once I EQ'd the treble down). I love the tygr's vshape sound and the bass presence since I use them for movies and singleplayer games.
