Tam had never seen a cockatrice, but she knew enough about them to know that the thing in the cage was not a cockatrice. They were druin-forged (or so the songs alleged) and matched to the scimitars— Thistle and Thorn—she wore in scabbards on either hip. David is usually obsessed with Dark Souls and Fire Emblem, though occasionally ventures into various Final Fantasy and Dragon Age territories. Damn, you follow my blog, it was my book of the year for last year and I’m always going on about it, sigh, women, sigh, bloggers. Along the way, as any band worth its salt would do, Fable makes a tour of the arena circuit, continuing Eames’ notion that mercenary bands are simply more violent versions of rock groups.

In short, he's done it again, despite all the changes Eames has hit the sweet spot bang in the middle and I'm already looking forwards to where the next book will take us! I admired how these references never felt like they were shoehorned in for the sake of nostalgic appeal.

Well……I shouldn’t have worried as sometimes when you start a new book you just know within the first few pages that you are going to be in for a treat and that was the case with Bloody Rose. Which is great, because everyone, from the wranglers to the bookers to the arena managers—heck, sometimes even the mercs themselves—get paid, and the rest of us get a hell of a show.

I’ve been lucky enough to catch a handful of these experiences in my lifetime: Daft Punk at Coney Island, Radiohead at MSG Theater, and A Perfect Circle at the Theater of Living Arts. She doubted even a dozen of them would give a band of half-decent mercenaries a run for their money. It's adventure she wants-and adventure she gets as the crew embark on a quest that will end in one of two ways: glory or death. Though he attended college for theatre arts, he gave up acting to pursue the infinitely more attainable profession of “epic fantasy novelist”.

I’m hoping to get my copy this week and I can’t even describe my excitement at the thought of reading it, more so after reading your review. As the deep-red armour of its wielder plunges ferociously into dense knots of faithless idolaters, Beneficence sends arterial sprays across the battlefield with each cut of enemy flesh. They consist of the Shaman Brune ( who can change into a Bear), the druin Freecloud ( a rabbit-eared warrior from an ancient long-living race), the Inkwitch Cura ( a summoner who summons the horrific creatures tattooed onto her body to fight alongside Fable) and their frontwoman, Bloody Rose ( who is a badass with some sweet weaponry in ‘Thistle and Thorn’ her duo of scimitars). Just passed the halfway point and can feel the Sanderslanche starting - I have a feeling the rest of the book is going to go REAL quick.

A muzzle was clamped over its leonine jaw, but despite its captivity the creature still managed to look terrifying. Readers will find their own themes to ponder, but for this reviewer, the main theme of Bloody Rose is “What constitutes family? She passed a snake-headed gorgon chained by her neck to brackets in the wall behind her, and a black horse that breathed fire into the face of someone fool enough to inspect its teeth. In place of contemplative meditation, the sisters learn to light the fires of rage within themselves, even when they are not faced with provocation. Bloody Rose is a sequel to Kings of the Wyld, but at the same time it stands well enough on its own merits– a lucky thing too, as Bloody Rose was at the library but the first one wasn’t for whatever reason.
