Description

Ukuleles have light gauge G and A strings that make for great substitute G strings for high G tuning. If your guitalele has bridge pins then yes, I recommend the same set of strings for standard guitar and guitalele tuning. I will have to file the nut slots for the 6th, 5th and especially the 2nd string, but that's to be expected with the thicker strings.

That makes the string less bright, less responsive and more muffled: the thicker the string, the duller the sound. I have a Codoba Guilele and I use any hard or extra-hard tension classical strings I can get my hands on. But then I read somewhere a recommendation to use Requinto Strings, and found D'Addario Requinto - Silverplated Copper Wound, . I can't imagine what normal tension strings would be like, if the light tension strings are this hard. Has anyone had breakage with the Guitalele versions of Aquilas, especially the red-packaged, Rubino-like E-tuning set?

And if you do find a single G or A string, it’s usually not much less expensive (or not less expensive at all) than a full set of ukulele strings. I will say that as I was trying to test a song on the tiny fretboard, I did notice that these are quite sensitive to your nail technique, but with either no nails or well polished nails and good technique they sound lovely. THE GUILELE/GUITALELE RED SERIES sets provide superior performance over traditional strings for musicians who love clear, sharp sounds and powerful voicing across the full scale of the instrument. We probably wouldn’t recommend going much higher than a 9 gauge in this case due to the string tension. Most guitalele’s will use nylon strings in the same way a classical guitar does with electric guitalele’s using steel strings. But even if your guitalele does have a truss rod, it likely won’t sound quite right with steel strings because the instrument wasn’t designed for them. On this instrument, every hard/very hard tension set sounds great at standard pitch (and even better in F).

Aquila’s Guitarlele String sets provide superior performance over traditional strings, these strings maintain their intonation better. As an experiment, I capoed my classical, with D'Addario EJ45's on it, at the 5th fret, and the tension on the GL-1 with EJ43's is notably higher. I strung my Yamaha with standard D’Addario classical guitar strings and experienced a much better tone over whatever Yamaha was installing at the factory. If you’re an electric guitar player you may not be used to a thinner string but it’s worth considering the tension on the guitalele’s neck. At Original Artisan, we take great care ensuring the goods you purchase on this site reach you in good condition and as quickly as possible. If your guitalele doesn’t have bridge pins, I recommend using a G or A string from this set for high G tuning.
