Determined to speak her truth and bare all to her adoring fans, she's written an essay about her sexual awakening as a teenager, with her female best friend, Lisa. A Mum of 3 children under 11, she has a slight handbag addiction, a love of floral dresses and fun jewellery. She has 3 million followers on Instagram, a new book on the best sellers list and is adored by girls everywhere. The reason I have only given it 3 stars is because, at times, I felt the pace of the book to be a little off.

Sam doesn’t have a public and a private persona: she generally believes in her reality, and that is fascinating.I thought there was going to be more of a 'big reveal' at the end to more of her history, it was all a bit disjointed for me - not 100% sure of the point of the casual sex she referred to in her earlier life or her ex Gabriel, but I suppose it was to give you a hint of what an awful person she was/is. The concept is solid, the portrayal of Samantha Miller is well-depicted but I just didn’t connect with any individual. As the persona Samantha has created for herself starts to crumble, she decides to revisit her old friend and the past. I really enjoyed this, Samantha is a horrible character (in fact they all are) but I loved reading about her. Her first novel, Only Ever Yours, was released in 2014 and won the Sunday Independent Newcomer of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, the Eilís Dillon Award for a First Book and the Bookseller's inaugural YA Book Prize.

On 3 January 2022, the day this story begins, Samantha Miller is a Gwyneth-esque lifestyle author and influencer, who has almost 3m followers and the world at her feet. Best selling books, film adaptations, sold out events with her loyal followers…: and an uncanny ability to present her version of events that may well differ to others. I am not giving it five stars because I did in the end feel that it suffered a

Samantha is shallow, selfish and spiteful and her friend, Lucy, doesn't have any personality to speak of. I had no empathy for any one person, which was unexpected as I thought I’d be rooting for either Lisa or Samantha.

I've lived in this city long enough to know that the only thing these people can't forgive is poverty. Overall, it was a good read and I found the unravelling of the main Character Sam to be both uncomfortable, yet page-turning. Sam is eager to get Lisa to bend to her will, and say and do exactly what she wants/needs her to say or do. At times, I wasn't even sure what I was reading; I only knew that I had to find out where this story was going and how it would resolve. As a social media storm erupts, things deteriorate as Sam tries to reconnect with Lisa and Josh to confirm her truth.I’d also suggest that it totally misses the mark with regards to rape allegations both false and true. Samantha remembers it as a positive experience, but the other woman, Lisa, remembers it very differently. While she was 40 years old, it was obvious that she had never let go of some things from her childhood (namely not being chosen as 'the one' by the boy she liked). The synopsis frames the sexual assault as the MCs "sexual awakening" (which is just really utter and complete bullshit). She has everything she could ever want- money, fame, a huge following of young women who are obsessed with her every word- but she can't let go of the past.

Of course, the inevitable dilemma of a rock star romance is how is the heroine going to fit into the heady world of sex, drugs and rock and roll.Subsequent books have definitely not hit the same heights but at least kept me engaged to some extent.
