Description

A few years before starting the journal I had a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40AO that I thought was an excellent match for a then owned Ruger X-17. We found that the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD binoculars had an above average performance in dealing with strong light. I like that that Bushnell have offered these in both standard black and a camo option and is a good sign that these are not only aimed at general users, but wildlife enthusiasts and hunters as well. The weight has been cut by adding a magnesium chassis, and enhanced comfort with soft-touch grip accents on the rubber-armored housing.

You might imagine our relief when we found that it wasn't loose glass rattling inside the binocular at all. It’s bolted in place, so there’s no option to remove the clip if it doesn’t work for us, or we feel its presence is unnecessary, but it’s a minor gripe. The construction of the device itself is reassuringly sturdy and tank-like too, while not being prohibitively weighty; after all, we’ll be choosing this monocular over, say, a pair of binoculars for the fact that they are generally a more portable alternative. Is it possible that this is a penalty for not using a better grade ED glass, is the ED better utilized in a narrow FOV or is it just me thinking there's a pattern of narrow FOV? Although I didn't like the excessive pincushion, the 7x36 ZR ED2 impressed me with its centerfield resolution and CA control even off axis.

The lenses are fully multi-coated, with anti-reflective and water repellent coatings that will resist moisture and condensation. We don’t mind this, as it avoids said protective cap from being mislaid, but we can imagine the lever-like mechanism becoming worn over time with repeated opening and closing.

This series features ED prime glass, which guarantees sublime high-definition images and sharp, edge-to-edge clarity and contrast. The only major negative that I remember posting about was the size of the binocular's "sweet spot" of image in focus and relatively free of distortion. Fully multicoated optics provide multiple layers on all air to glass surfaces for a brighter, higher-contrast image with less eyestrain.I notice the non-ED Elite in 43/50 MM has been discontinued as well as the non-ED Legend, but it's still all quite muddled. Well, I had some time the other night so I took many of my current binocular selection out back to do a little "resolution comparison" between models. Extra-Low Dispersion fluorite glass delivers amazing color resolution and contrast to bring out the most distinct details possible in low-light conditions.

News is a tad long in the tooth w/the latest review I found being on the gold ring Leupold from May 2006 and an article questioning roofs at 500 clams using the Zeiss Diafun 8 X30 as an example that discounted for 350 bucks when still available as NOS.This time around the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42 monocular adds a slightly futuristic look and accessories like an onboard belt grip for hands-free transportation; its no-nonsense ruggedness resembles something Sigourney Weaver would wield in the Alien movies or Arnie in the Terminator series.

Interestingly, it has a series of nylon-covered cushioning bumps that vary the load on the neck strap. If more magnification is something you are looking for, and parallax adjustment is important, Bushnell’s Ultra HD just may be the scope you’ve been looking for. Premium components like ED Prime glass, PC-3® Phase-Coated prisms and fully multi-coated optics deliver bright, clear views from edge to edge.Ashton Little reviews have suggested this is a great product and we have therefore chosen to list this as one of our lines. Equipped with our best ED Prime fluorite glass, the optical performance of this monocular will show you ever detail at a 10x magnification. Adjustments:Bushnell decided on the Ultra HD to put the parallax adjustment with the windage and elevation turrets.
