Today, after what felt like an entire lifetime of that daily grind of just trying to get ahead if not sumply keep my head above water let alone raise a healthy, well adjusted person equipped to go out on her own, my daughter finally values and appreciates me; respects me, and even tells me I’m her hero. However, if you keep in mind that her ideas are suggestions of things to try and tweak to make your own, you may be surprised at how you can come up with ways that you can, in fact, do less. It doesn’t matter if you’re postmenopausal, pregnant, or lactating, if you’ve had a hysterectomy (partial or radical), if you’re transgender, or anything else. Kate: Yeah, exactly because if we are trying to do six new initiatives or six new strategies at the same time, just because everyone else is doing them and we saw a webinar on Instagram ad or whatever, we don’t… I don’t care what the strategies are. And I know I have gloried in being a ‘Jill of all trades’, and a spur of the moment creative person.

Seven years on, I’ve found myself in Québec, learning french full time and not at all practising my profession. Marie: Super preggos and you had beautiful Ruby and now you have a new baby, Do Less, which is amazing. Over the holiday season, every time I missed an event because the weather was bad I was secretly relieved. When we ask often, we’ve strengthened the muscle and we get good at it and then it allows us to ask kindly and it is so much easier to think about… I think about in my marriage, when I’m cranky and I’m way past needing help, I am not easy to help and no one wants to help me because I’m awful and if I ask early and often, then it’s really easy to ask kindly where I can be like, hey babe, next week I’ve got this thing, can you get the girls at daycare and whatever, what have you, and it’s like, oh yeah, sure. And I drilled this into my daughter’s head during her adolescence when she felt she needed to be everywhere and do everything and never miss a game or a concert or a party or whatever opportunity or pull presented. Quantifiable results-wise, we had our first 7-figure year as a company the very same year we made doing less our guiding philosophy, I wrote a second book in 2. Then Covid-19 happened and my gyms closed three weeks before I had even thought about starting my maternity leave.

She’s the perfect leader for us, as women, in what it looks and feels like to allow our desires to come to us. I had reached some amazing dreams like living on the Spanish Riviera for 2 months with my family but I wasn’t happy.

Before I get going here, I want you to know that if you identify as female, Egg Wisdom applies to you. I inhaled this book because it illuminates a language about women and work that I've lived by without realizing it. If you are wanting to have that sexy time happen and that chemistry and that spark and you are just cutting your partner off, not a great way to have that love stay alive. Ever since my first book, Money: A Love Story , came out in 2013 I’ve been waiting for the “next big thing” to emerge. Kate: Yeah, so in our company, we were spending some energy and time in making these beautifully designed social media graphics.

There’s a lot of different ways to talk about it and for me, I really did the analysis on my business and I saw, oh for me it’s creating content but it’s also connecting with people. You and I obviously both remember a time when we were running our businesses and social media didn’t exist. I have had to and still am working on letting go of the shame of living with ease and joy because as you mentioned in the video our mother’s worked so hard so that we could enjoy our lives. As she sits there, though, she also emits a signal that tells the sperm that she’s ready and available. As opposed to focusing on "fitting it all in," time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do.

She’s able to repair the DNA of a sperm and also nourish herself and the sperm until they make it to their final destination. In Kate Northrup’s new book, Do Less, she makes a science-backed argument for a slower paced, more meaningful life — without sacrificing your ambition or results. You know those times when you feel like everything you’ve done in your life up until a certain moment has prepared you for that moment?

The following is an excerpt of the Egg Wisdom chapter of my book Do Less: A Revolutionary Approach to Time and Energy Management for Ambitious Women reprinted with permission. It took a year for me to get the lesson but I ended up leaving the “good” career I didn’t love and went on a soul journey and found my creativity.

For anyone in our audience who’s unfamiliar, will you please give us a rundown of the 80/20 rule and then we can talk about how important it is to know your vital few. I just evaluated our income over the last 4 years and it has not changed, despite us both working a lot less! What if you had a blueprint to make sure everything that matters on 2020 gets done and that you’re blissed out and satisfied as you work your plan? And I find myself making little progress because I’m spinning around from one corner of my brain to the next with no clarity.
