I actually enjoyed reading about Haf and Christopher’s growing friendship (and the other friendships of the novel) as much as I did Haf’s sapphic longing for Kit. Haf is such an endearing and charming protagonist with a heart of gold, and her friend-turned-fake-boyfriend Christopher is utterly precious too. Hallmark romance , Christmas decorations , reindeer , snow fights and a life completely spun round in a cluster of white lies for the greater good.

Ich mochte nicht nur die romantische Anziehung zwischen Haf und Kit, sondern auch, wie viel Platz andere Freundschaften eingenommen haben. This was a very warm Christmas read with some brilliant characters who break stereotypes very well to create a Hallmark type read in a totally modern style. Occasionally the plot was a bit too cheesy and dramatised which is why I marked it down a star, however this really didn’t bother me much.Why Kit and Haf feel the need to pretend they’ve never crossed paths before I’m not sure but it definitely adds tension so I’ll take it. There’s the Christmas Eve-Eve village fete, the annual local ball, and the big day itself… Haf - the most adorable chaos monkey I’ve read in a while - tries her absolute best to play her role, but what can she do when shenanigans are attracted to her like a magnet? For me the only draw back with this production is that using the word 'they' for a single person is very confusing. Because fake relationships have to start somewhere, they are seen kissing by Christopher’s ex-girlfriend Laurel, who is there with her boorish new boyfriend Mark, and Laurel just assumes that Haf is Christopher’s new girlfriend.
