If you want to use MagSafe charging, we recommend keeping an eye out for MagSafe branding when buying a case for your device. Otherwise, you can buy a case directly from the Apple store to ensure a strong and reliable connection. Can you use MagSafe on older iPhone models?

The Evolved 3-in-1 Foldable Charger is a neat, portable way to charge all your Apple mobile devices—Watch, iPhone, AirPods—at the same time.

One of the biggest differences is that Qi2 will be able to charge non-Apple devices, namely Android. The hiccup here is that no upcoming Android devices have been slated to include Qi2 – with the Pixel 8 being the most notable. This will largely come down to what’s available to manufacturers during a phone’s development stage, but we should see some Qi2-compatible Android handsets appearing over the next few months. The pad format is better for travel portability than a charging stand, and it comes with its own wall power supply unit, so you don’t need to add your own USB-C charger. But it boasts so many top-end Thunderbolt and USB ports that you can customize it to your every desire. The Journey SWIV 3-in-1 reviewed above is a little larger but noticeably lighter, and also can fast-charge the Apple Watch. However, the cable length for MagSafe chargers maxes out at 1m, although the fact that the connector attaches in the middle of the phone can make it feel shorter than the standard USB to Lightning Cable. Plus, if you are an Apple Watch owner then you will need to ensure that you have a dedicated charger for that device, too.

On top of this is one 10Gbps USB-C port that you’ll need if you want to supplement the DisplayPort for a second external display. Your MagSafe Charger is designed for faster and most efficient charging with iPhone 15 models, iPhone 14 models, iPhone 13 models, iPhone 12 models, and Apple MagSafe accessories. The most obvious MagSafe Charger to buy for your Apple iPhone is, of course, the Apple MagSafe Charger. It’s the charger that Apple would have shipped with the iPhone if it did such things anymore.

If you don’t own an Apple Watch, the cheaper 3-in-1 Modular Charging Station charges iPhone, AirPods and iPad. Also available from Apple. During our testing, a completely depleted iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro took an hour to charge up to 50% using the MagSafe charging, while the same test on a 7.5W Qi pad from Mophie took well over an hour. So while it’s not the most sophisticated charging solution, it is definitely one of the fastest solutions when it comes to iPhones. Any MagSafe iPhone (12/13/14/15) can be wirelessly charged at up to 15W, faster than non-certified MagSafe-compatible chargers. AirPods and Apple Watch will each charge wirelessly at 5W. Its main advantage over the non-certified competition is its 15W charging power. It’s still half as fast as using a Lightning cable, however, and if you are going to the bother of connecting this to a USB-C charger, why not just use a Lightning (iPhone 12/13/14) or USB-C (iPhone 15) cable? You can fast-charge an iPhone to 50% battery in around 30 minutes using a cable, while it takes around 50 minutes to wirelessly charge iPhone from 0 to 50% using even 15W MagSafe.

The TS4 also matches the Echo 20 with super-fast 2.5GbE Gigabit Ethernet–2.5x faster than standard Gigabit Ethernet. The TS3 Plus isn’t unsuitable for non-Thunderbolt laptops—but as most MacBooks have at least TB3, that shouldn’t matter unless you work in a mixed Mac/Windows environment. Keep in mind that MagSafe chargers and MagSafe- compatible chargers aren't the same. A MagSafe charger supports a maximum output of 15W and has a built-in magnetometer and compass to prevent interference if you use your iPhone while charging. Chargers that are only MagSafe-compatible rely on the Qi charging standard, max out at charging speeds of 7.5W, and don't feature anti-interference features. Those compromises could be a deal breaker for some, but you might not care in light of their lower cost. The detachable power bank is powered up while in the stand, via the connected 1.5m USB-C cable that requires a decent (at least 20W) wall charger. You can swap out the cable for a longer or shorter one if that’s what you require. Charging an Android device via MagSafe is a slower process though, in the same vein as using MagSafe on iPhones older than the iPhone 12. Everything from the iPhone 8 onwards does support Qi, meaning that MagSafe will technically work though it provides very low speeds that won’t be helpful if you’re in a rush. Is the MagSafe charger worth buying?Don’t rule out mere MagSafe-compatible chargers as they are often high quality and nearly always noticeably cheaper. “MagSafe compatible” is used widely to mean any accessory that includes a bunch of magnets. Don’t forget that it still requires a USB-C wall charger (at least 20W recommended if you want the full 15W potential). The base charges at 7.5W and can be used to power up AirPods or a second iPhone, and the Watch part fast charges at 5W. Both MagSafe and Qi2 use magnets to provide a secure, power-efficient way to wirelessly attach the charger to the smartphone and both have a slightly faster charging speed when compared to the standard Qi solution. The charging panel connects to the mat with a light magnetic snap, and can be positioned on either side simply by flipping the mat round 180 degrees, depending on whether you are left or right handed.

When charging a non-MagSafe Qi-compatible device with a MagSafe Charger, power is reduced and charge times may be slower than on a typical Qi charger. You can always trust iMore. Alogic has created a modular system that transforms what is often a static charging station into something more dynamic and portable. It’s called Matrix and features several products, some of which can be used with each other depending on your charging needs. This is a great combination of desk-bound charger and portable power bank. For more options, read our roundup of the best MagSafe power banks. It also features a CFast 2.0 card reader for people still using CompactFlash in its latest version. While Apple’s MacBooks featuring the company’s own M1 or M2 Silicon chip are super speedy compared to the models sporting Intel processors, models with plain (non-Pro or Max) M1, M2 and M3 chips come with an incredible limitation: they don’t support more than one external display in Extended Mode even via their Thunderbolt 3 ports. You can use two of the three downstream TB4 ports to connect directly to USB-C-equipped monitors or HDMI or DisplayPort screens using inexpensive adapters. It can handle two 6K displays at 60Hz or one 8K monitor at the same refresh rate. Both connected displays can run 4K displays at 60Hz. You could also run one 5K display at the same frame rate.
