About this deal

It’s this purity of the laser delivery, in fact, that makes the LSP9T’s pictures look even brighter in a dark room than the claimed 2,800 lumens would lead you to expect. This brightness is particularly helpful with high dynamic range sources, creating dazzling HDR images we simply haven’t seen on a projector of this price before. This holds true even with some ambient light in the room – a key achievement for a projector designed for the living room rather than a dedicated home cinema environment. The automatic calibration function, if you go that route, requires a compatible cell phone; I used a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. With the automatic calibration, you don't need to worry about 2-point, 10-point, or any of that. You don't need to own a colorimeter, pattern generator, or calibration software. All you need to do is launch an app, aim the phone's camera at the screen, and let it run. The word "Calibrated" appears next to Movie in the mode selection menu when it's done. As a result, where the Premiere could handle some ambient light and still deliver a splendid image we expect The Freestyle will require a much darker viewing environment and may struggle to provide clarity in darker scenes. Samsung's new projector, The Freestyle, squeezes sophisticated picture processing, a long-life LED light source, and extensive smart TV capabilities into a compact body that's purpose-designed for flexibility and portability.

The Tizen-powered smart platform offers all the main streamers including Netflix, Prime, Disney+ and Apple TV+, plus all the UK TV catch-up services. It also includes other smart features such as Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Universal Guide, Samsung Health and Remote Access. The Samsung Freestyle 2nd Gen is a Full HD DLP projector with an LED light source that has a peak brightness of 550 lumens. It’s capable of illuminating a screen up to 100in, and the performance has been tweaked to extend this brightness to a whopping 30,000 hours. Projector Stand - You can easily adjust the angle by using the included projector stand. From the wall to the ceiling, make the screen whatever surface you want.Dynamic picture mode uses the "Cool" color tone by default and clips some highlight detail. Still, it is perfectly usable in a situation where you want maximum light output above all. But, because Standard mode is capable of getting as bright (if you turn the Brightness control up to 50) and is more accurate; it's the solid choice for general purpose use. Monitor Viewing. Perhaps the most impressive application for this projector is creating the equivalent of a small flat panel screen. Samsung suggests using The Freestyle as a sort of portable monitor, and when I gave it a try, I was really surprised at the quality of the image. Shining directly on to a wall works great, though watch out for glossy paint; it'll have glare. But, for maximum impact, try using a piece of matte white posterboard or, better yet, a piece of 20 x 30-inch foam board. The smooth and neutral white surface of paper makes for a superbly detailed image that holds up well even under moderate ambient light and looks legitimately amazing under dim light. Setting up the Samsung Freestyle portable projector couldn’t be easier. This compact projector features: The projector can create big images on any wall, while the Smart Calibration feature ensures that the colours look accurate, even on off-white surfaces - just not especially punchily coloured ones. Resulting images are bight and detailed, though, with no obvious artefacts, and motion handling is excellent. Before I dive into it, let me just say for three projectors of similar size and intended purpose, these look radically different. You'd think that'd be directly related to price, but nope.

Ceiling Viewing. I was also skeptical about projecting onto the ceiling until I tried it myself. Samsung argues that you could use The Freestyle in bed instead of a smartphone or tablet. They even mention the benefit of not dozing off and dropping a device on your face! It's true; if you have a standard flat ceiling you can just put The Freestyle on the nightstand, aim it up, and doze off watching whatever. First off, you need to think about the situations you’re going to be using your projector in and find one that fits your requirements. Taking your smart projector on-the-go? Consider how well the projector achieves a portable design. Does it come with a carry handle? Or can it fold into a travel-ready container? If your projector is going to sit on your coffee table, make sure it says it’s a “short throw.”

Samsung The Freestyle ANSI Lumens

This brightness is crucial, as most people won’t want to have to fully darken every room they want to use The Freestyle in. That said, if you do find yourself using it in a relatively dark environment, its surprising brightness for such a small projector also helps it deliver an unexpectedly enjoyable sense of HDR’s advantages over SDR. Worth noting: Under color space settings (CMS), I chose "Auto," and according to my measurements using Portrait Displays' Calman color calibration software, Rec.709 coverage is 99%, which in effect is 100%. Color points are very close to accurate without any adjustment. However, a dedicated hobbyist or professional could certainly spend a few minutes to get it exactly perfect (for a given projection surface, anyhow). The Anker Nebula Solar Portable is a compact and stylish mini projector that we enjoyed testing because it delivers in almost every area at an affordable price. Furthermore, you can easily connect The Freestyle to the smartphone through Tap View and Airplay2. With Wi-Fi direct connection, you can mirror your main TV to The Freestyle. The idea behind the rotating mechanism is that it lets you more or less effortlessly adjust the angle of projection to pretty much whatever you like. So no matter how low or high a table it's sitting on, you can get the image to appear in exactly the place on your wall you want. The tilt feature means you could even project onto the eaves of a loft room; a vaulted ceiling; or even a flat ceiling right above your head if you rotate the projector through 90 degrees. So now you can watch TV in bed without even having to sit up.
