Description

The police investigation into the scandal had gone international, the Bradford Daily Telegraph reporting how an English detective named Shan had arrived in Berlin from London, en route to St Petersburg. His mission? To ‘obtain an important statement from one of the fugitives’ involved in the affair.

With muscled elegance and boxing gloves on, the new Scandal Pour Homme by Jean Paul Gaultier makes a spectacular, hard-hitting entrance with a masculine eau de toilette that's sensual, energising and extremely addictive. The Illustrated Police Newsreport on the libel prosecution also contains some interesting information about ‘how the scandal leaked out.’ The piece describes how:A ‘significant proportion’ of cases were labelled as ‘no further action’ needed. The investigator said this was inappropriate. Prince Albert Victor (pictured far left) with members of his family, his sister Princess Maud, his mother the Princess of Wales, his father the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), his sister Princess Louise, brother Prince George (later George V) and sister Princess Victoria | Illustrated London News | 7 November 1891 To me Scandal is quite a youthful style of scent. It’s inoffensive and is sweet, and could be described as a gourmand fragrance. Longevity – Scandal Pour Homme is an eau de toilette (EDT) and is a sweet scent. It lasted quite a while with me, I got 5-6 hours.

This isn’t to everyone’s liking, but personally owning quite a few fragrances, I like having a sweet fragrance in my collection for versatility. In this special blog, we shall explore how newspapers from the time reported on the Cleveland Street scandal. We shall look at how restrictions were placed on the British press, and examine how newspapers from Britain’s then empire reported on the incident. We shall learn, furthermore, how homosexuality was demonised by the press, and characterised as an aristocratic vice, whilst understanding how the scandal highlighted the hypocrisy that was embedded at the heart of Victorian society.A witness told the investigator: “The executive leadership team agenda did not focus on children’s social care nor did one-to-ones with the chief executive, who asked me about children’s social care performance once but wasn’t interested in understanding the information, so he never asked me again.” For the target audience who is looking for a certain stage of development of a fragrance and only wants this one linear fragrance, it must be the fulfillment. For those who carry an inner Monk around with them, for whom the development of a fragrance with its different notes and progressions means physical torment, this fragrance must be salvation. The article then explains that two other people were ‘smuggled into prison,’ one of whom was a ‘nobleman connected with the Court.’ He had since fled, resigning his position in the army, leading the Illustrated Police Newsto ask:

It’s time for another fragrance review, and this time I have got another fairly new scent which is Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal Pour Homme. The Scandal Pour Homme bottle is very distinctive. First of all you’ll notice the crown. This acts as the top of the bottle, and it looks the part in gold. The rest of the bottle is clear glass, with the Scandal branding to the front in a gold box. At first this reminded me of apple, but reading the notes, it seems to be notes of caramel which I am smelling. This kind of reminds me of Boss Bottled EDP, which is what took me down the apple road. But smelling it over and over, I can get the difference between the two.Ask me something... yesterday I read that Coke Zero is not healthy... artificial sweetener can damage the liver and pancreas... but well, 'nen real scandal... that goes differently." Not only did the article allude to several men of high standing being involved in the scandal, but it also highlighted how the British press was silent on the matter:

Scandal embodies Jean Paul Gaultier's take on femininity; an elegant Parisian, festive and sexy at the heart of the scandalous neighborhoods of Paris. A honey chypre. Scandal is an overdose of pleasure, a new kind of perfume for women. A delicious honey combined with the elegance of gardenia and with a sensual patchouli: an addiction that’s just so Jean Paul Gaultier. The almost pantomime juxtaposition belies the battle between perceived forces of good and evil, poor and rich, innocent and sinning. But which would win out? ‘How the Scandal Leaked Out’In the end, the scandal died down. Ernest Parke was found guilty of libel in January 1890, effectively clearing Lord Euston’s reputation. However, the damage was done. Newspapers continued to reinforce in the public’s mind that male homosexuality was a dangerous and aristocratic vice, something that was built on the 1895 trial of Oscar Wilde. I see Scandal as more of a playful fragrance, worn in the day rather than a night. It could be an everyday fragrance as it’s inoffensive in nature, and I think works best in a casual setting. Since Scandal is such a sweet and light scent, I can see wearing this in the spring and summer, especially during the warmer weather. It will work well during the day around town or at the beach, or on a hot summers night. The message to the government? Act now, the Sheffield Independentpenning how ‘all this is very serious, and Ministers can scarcely delay long in instituting such proceeding as shall allay the growing excitement.’ The Libel Prosecution
