Rose, Jess (November 2, 2022). "Jimmie Allen, Eric Church + More Hop on Rolling Stones Tribute Album, Stoned Cold Country". Taste of Country . Retrieved December 15, 2022. Fans can also get an intimate look into the creation of the record with the newly released album trailer featuring studio footage and interviews with the artists discussing The Rolling Stones’ tremendous impact on the world at large, Country music, and their own lives – watch here! Chua, Jeremy (February 17, 2023). "Lainey Wilson Tributes the Rolling Stones With "You Can't Always Get What You Want" ". Taste of Country . Retrieved February 23, 2023. That country music’s relationship with the Rolling Stones reaches across decades is a given. Even the parents of some of the youngest artists here were children if they were even born when the British bad boys played their first gig. In 1997, another country tribute album dedicated to this subject, Stone Country paired country legends and current hitmakers with Stones classics. For that collection, reliance was still heavy on hits, but there was a wider scope. There are no revelations on Stoned Cold Country like Nanci Griffith’s sublime treatment of “No Expectations”, or George Jones’ fitting “Time Is on My Side”, for example.

Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Elvie Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band Elliott, Michael (March 20, 2023). " Stoned Cold Country Proves You Can't Always Get What You Want". PopMatters . Retrieved June 14, 2023. Long fascinated by the Stones, and specifically their country roots, Deaton spent the past several years on a specific mission: namely to shine a light on the Stones’ influence not only on Country music at large, but more specifically on some of its most convention-busting contemporary artists. Throughout the record, which was produced by Robert Deaton, the participating artists – Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Elvie Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band – all inject their own trademark style into the revered music of The Stones across Stoned Cold Country, creating a powerful homage to one of the most enduring, trailblazing and influential bands in the world. As publisher, “obviously one of your main mandates is to say, ‘Okay, here’s a great catalog of songs’— and, we all know, there is already one great version,” Masuch says. “’So, what do we do to extend the relevance of those songs in a couple of dimensions? Here’s an audience, a different genre and a different generation.’I think that’s a core task of a publisher.”

The result became Stoned Cold Country – “A love letter to The Rolling Stones from Nashville,” in Deaton’s own words – and a toast to not only one of the best bands to ever do it, but specifically to their supreme influence on the past and present world of country music. Tribute albums are fairly common in country music. It seems almost like tradition for artists to tip their hats to the legends that came before. What is unique about the genre’s latest tribute collection, Stoned Cold Country, is who they’re honoring.

The album features vibrant contributions from Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band – all of whom inject their own trademark sonic styles into the revered music of the Stones, creating a powerful homage to one of the most enduring, trailblazing and influential bands in the world. The result became Stoned Cold Country – “A love letter to The Rolling Stones from Nashville,” in Deaton’s own words – and a toast to not only one of the best bands to ever do it, but specifically to their supreme influence on the past and present world of Country music. The collection opens with Ashley McBryde’s hard-driving take on ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’. Her twanged-up rendition gets most of its power from her defiant vocals. As she sneers the resolute lyrics, the song begins to twist, taking the shape of a song all her own. Forthcoming Star-Studded Record Features Covers from Country’s Biggest Stars: Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Elvie Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band Elle King has a much more idiosyncratic voice, but it’s not what “Tumbling Dice” needs to get rolling. Maren Morris seems like a good match in theory for “Dead Flowers”— and she’s one of the best country stars we have, God bless her — but she can’t quite make herself into a convincing heroin fiend. (Many, of course, would hold that to her credit.)

In honor of the 60th Anniversary of The Rolling Stones, country music is celebrating with a tribute album called Stoned Cold Country. Country artists celebrate the legacy of The Rolling Stones through fourteen distinct covers of some of their greatest hits. The exciting new project is officially out now.Stoned Cold Country – Nashville’s Love Letter to The Rolling Stones – Set to Arrive 17th March 2023 Desperate for some up by this point, I was grateful to hear Little Big Town offer perhaps the most consummate take on “Wild Horses” I have ever encountered. The steel is, shhh, better than Sneaky Pete Kleinow’s in the erstwhile “best version” by the Flying Burrito Brothers. The vocals are glorious, the harmonies better, especially in the four part chorus chorale.
