I didn't know what to expect before reading this book - I had never read anything by Gabrielle beforehand but I knew after reading the premise that when the oppurtunity came up to receive this ARC that I wanted to get my hands on it and surely enough I got the chance. When she ran after what she did to save herself and a girl who would of been the next victim - I somehow knew that wherever she ended up it would be connected to why the girl was kidnapped in the first place and I was right. towards the end slight grovelling was involved, which, for me, is always the best part of a book. giorgio messed up a bit, his own insecurities getting on top of his feeling for martina, but he grovelled in the sweetest way possible. all it took was a little jealousy and the realization that this time he pushed her too far away, and she wouldn’t attempt to bridge the distance between them this time around. the hero’s 1st pov isn’t a complete simp fest. He’s intrigued by the heroine but not creating wedding mood boards quite yet.

And that third act break-up was CHEF’S KISS! Man, I love it when the FMC calls the MMC out in his tomfoolery. When She Unravels is a dark mafia romance that I thought was okay, but the potential is there, especially with the characters, our heroine, who I wish was much more developed. What happens when I stop believing it entirely? It goes against everything I’ve been taught, but I constantly daydream about running away from Lazaro. It would be a real scandal. The end of my life as I know it. I’d be caught and handed to my husband for punishment, and he’d enjoy making me scream. Mamma twirls her spaghetti-al-limone on her fork and raises it off her plate. “I know you’re still adjusting.” The side characters, particularly Ras, Martina, and that other guy, are far more interesting than the main characters.When She Unravels is an 18+ dark mafia romance with mature themes, profanity, and plenty of steam. It's book one in The Fallen series but can be listened to as a standalone. Overall I enjoyed the writing style. The choices the author made early helped me move past stuff that would typically annoy me. the hero never refers to himself as a monster. He never tries to tell us what a bad man he is. What a breath of fresh air we start with the heroine’s POV - this is so rare these days but really sets up the book to have a little tension.

It was so much better than I expected. The story of Valentina & Damiano is beautiful, heartbreaking and exciting. The writing style is awesome! I pretend I’m suddenly very interested in my own reflection. “I’m fine.” My sister can never know the details of my marriage—the things Lazaro does and makes me do. It would shatter all her illusions about our parents and about me. “Why didn’t Mamma bring Cleo?”Gio and Martina’s love story is a bit of a slow burn, but the wait was well worth it! The chemistry and tension between these two had me dying for the steamy bits to hurry up and happen, but lord they didn’t disappoint when they finally did. Gio has quite the filthy mouth!
