My main – and completely unscientific – test for the presence of smoke basically came down to whether or not I had to wash my hair before bed! I can’t stand the smell of smoke-filled hair, and on those windier days, I did have to take a shower. Larry Campbell, a member of The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board, tells us that when burning wood, smoke is inevitable. However, this unit is designed to funnel all the smoke straight up (instead of blowing at you with the wind). We were unable to smell the smoke and barely able to see it. However, be sure to follow the instructions to take advantage of the smokeless feature. When we first used the unit, we did not properly start and maintain the fire and, as a result, a lot of smoke was created due to our user-based error. When we used the unit again, and maintained the fire with smaller wood pieces, we found that the smokeless feature worked well. The main point to note is that you should not overfill the Bonfire 2.0. If the wood/kindling sits higher than the upper vent holes (inside the rim) you will stuff any hopes of smoke-free burning and it’ll also compromise the airflow burning system, too. I can’t decide if I love the design, or find it a bit ‘blah’, but it’s certainly not offensive in any way and there’s no doubt the build quality is good. Although the Breeo X Series 24 Smokeless Fire Pit is one of the most expensive options on this list, if you want to add an interesting focal point to your yard, we think its unique design, durability, and little to no smoke make it worth the splurge.

Ian has worked for Hayes since leaving school, spending the majority of this time in the outdoor furniture department and like Keith has an in-depth knowledge of Hayes customers. He also has the same ethos at heart when buying garden furniture; will it be an acceptable price and quality? He also takes into account the changing fashions and environmental considerations, such as using recycled materials, being recyclable at the end of its life and is the timber sourced from forests which have a re-planting policy. Since this is a small, compact fire pit, it's very easy to clean out and store when not in use. We continue to think it's an excellent way to add a bit of warmth and the ambiance of a traditional fire pit to small patios and balconies without adding a lot of smoke or a bulky unit. The Terraflame Wave Tabletop Fire Bowl is a simple and stylish way to add a fire element to any outdoor space. Almost as easy to use as a candle, this small fire bowl just requires the use of the included gel canister and a lighter. While testing, we also found the setup to be very minimal: After removing it from the box, just add the included beach pebbles and the gel canister. Clean-up is just as simple since you can put the cover on the gel canister to extinguish the fire, with no ash to clean up or other steps necessary. Plus, we found it to be very durable and we noticed no damage when we left it out uncovered (although we found it very easy to cover with our existing patio set cover). When we tested the Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 on a more inclement day – when there were mild Spring-time winds but nothing that would dry your sheets in record time – the firepit was more or less smokeless. But, on the days when we tested it when the wind appeared to be coming from three directions – as it often does here on the edge of Dartmoor – its smokeless powers failed somewhat. Next, you need to pop the ash pan in the bottom, with the base plate centred on top. There’s also one more metal ring, the flame ring, to slide into place on the top lip of the Bonfire 2.0. This ring has angled edges that help funnel flames and smoke away from your face.Admittedly, the price tag is high, especially considering you can make a fire pit out of a steel shopping basket, dustbin or old washing machine drum! However, the Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 burns very efficiently, and uses precious little fuel, while producing barely any ash, and is more or less smokeless, all of which means it punches way above regular fire pits. And, if you do buy into the Solo Stove hype, you should be set for life thanks to its lifetime guarantee. If you’re looking for the look and feel of a traditional fire pit that you can enjoy on a tabletop, we recommend the Solo Stove Mesa Smokeless model. The unit is compact, measuring 5.1 inches in diameter and 6.8 inches tall, as well as lightweight, weighing only 1.24 pounds. It comes with a stand and a carrying bag, making it easy to tote around and use in different settings. We also appreciate that it includes a pellet adapter, so you can choose between using regular kindling or pellets to start the fire. We also enjoyed grilling hot dogs on the fire pit. However, you will need some patience—because of the shallowness of the bowl, we had to wait 45 to 50 minutes for the flames to go down enough for grilling to be possible. For those out there who love a spot of outdoor cooking no matter the season or time of year, this range is the perfect one for you. Whether you’re looking for something traditional like one of our stainless-steel grills or if you’re looking for something outrageous like our pig inspired BBQ sculpture, this selection has something to suit all styles. Every piece has been crafted with a selection of high quality metal, and stonework, specifically designed for outdoor use and cooking. Many of these designs also double up as fire pits and logs stores, keeping your entertainment stress-free and your outdoor space neat and tidy all year long.

For outdoor items, weathering may occur over time as the item is exposed to wind, rain and other natural elements. We recommend an annual or as required maintenance schedule. Please see our product maintenance guides or speak to our sales team for more information. In terms of design, the fire pit has a plain, but clean and stylish, appearance. However, to keep it looking like new, you will need to protect it with a fire pit cover when not in use, otherwise, rust will develop on the screen (although we found that the rest of the fire pit still looked great). Overall, the unit offers a simple, yet effective, design at a great value, and is an essential addition to any outdoor space. Along with our great selection of outdoor fire pits and accessories is the price tag that will make you smile. We offer great value for the price! In fact, it will be hard to find high quality fire pits, portable BBQ’s, chimineas, outdoor grills, rain chains or garden bells at such a great price anywhere else. Yes, during these tough times, you will still be able to find the right fire pit to fit your surroundings and enhance your relaxation time, but also fit your budget! After using this fire pit for four months, we continued to be impressed by its durability—despite several very windy storms, the pit has never blown over or had any changes to its appearance. We've also really appreciated the openness and size of this fire pit, especially compared to smokeless options, which tend to have more of a cylindrical shape and hold less wood. Our only wish is that it came with a cover, especially at this high price point. But overall, we think this is a great option if you want a large, open fire pit for gathering with family and friends. Installation is straightforward. Centre your Ranger on top of the stand, and presto, you are ready to go! Place your Solo Stove Ranger Stand inside the Ranger for easy storage and transport.Yes, a Solo Stove can get wet or rained on, but it’s recommended to cover the stove with a protective cover when not in use to prevent rusting and damage. We were able to assemble this unit in approximately one minute. No tools were required, and we only had to attach the bottom piece to the main unit to set it all up. We found that the handles and weight made it easy to move around the yard, but it's not the best option for bringing to a tailgate or on camping trips. On the plus side, we found this fire pit to be very sturdily built. In fact, while testing the fire pit, wind speeds reached around 30 mph, and, unlike our patio furniture, this fire pit did not move with the wind. Yes, a Solo Stove can be used on grass, concrete, or outdoor rugs, but it’s important to place a protective pad or heat shield underneath the stove to prevent any damage to the surface. While it doesn't produce as much heat or light as a regular fire pit, we found it to be warm when we were less than a foot away, and we enjoyed the soft, ambient light it produced. And although we did notice a small chemical smell from the fuel canister, we didn't notice much smoke at all. Keep in mind that you will have to buy replacement canisters (each one lasts for three hours), which like the bowl itself are a bit pricey. But overall, if you are unable to add a woodburning or propane fire pit to your outdoor space, we think this is an easy way to add a natural element and cozy ambiance to your patio table. First for the science bit. Solo Stove’s smokeless situation works via secondary burn, made possible thanks to its double-skin steel construction with vent holes at the top and bottom. Cool air is pulled through the bottom, heats up within the double cavity, and rises to the top, which invokes secondary combustion as the hot air exits the top vents.

We were very impressed with the Tiki Fire Pit’s heating performance. While standing five feet away from the pit, we were still able to significantly feel the warmth. Even at a greater distance, we could still feel it, even though it wasn't as strong. Overall, we found the heat to be evenly distributed and to have a nice feel. Testing this fire pit for four months confirmed that it's a great smokeless option, especially if you like a simple, stainless steel design. After our initial learning curve, we had no problem setting the fire up properly to fully unitize the smokeless feature. We continued to appreciate how the smoke was funneled upwards, so we never smelled like smoke or could feel smoke blowing at us. We also found it very easy to clean out and store and noticed no changes to the appearance over time. Just note that we did find it heavy to move, so make sure you have someone around to help. Why not enjoy a night under the stars with the Solo Stove Ranger. Outdoor living was never so warm and cosy with this outdoor garden heater! The ultimate portable fire pit We love all things fire pits and alfresco dining and we pride ourselves in our accessible customer service and we are always delighted when asked to help choose the perfect fire pit. Most of our larger items will be delivered on a pallet. This delivery will be a curbside delivery only.We were able to assemble the unit in around 10 minutes. Although there were no instructions, each part was clearly labeled, and we only had to place the various included parts, such as the grill grate and screen, into the main unit. While using this fire pit, we were pleased with how evenly the heat was distributed. We were able to feel the warmth without it feeling overpowering. Maintaining the fire required slightly more maintenance than other models, and we felt that the fire needed to be fed more firewood more often than other models. However, adding wood and kindling to the unit was a seamless process, and we do like that the bowl was decently sized and able to hold up to six firewood logs. Hampton Bay Crossridge 50,000 BTU Antique Bronze Gas Fire Pit: We tested this model during our most recent round of testing and were impressed by both its functionality and style. We think it's perfect for both lazy weekends, and busy weeknights since it's very simple to turn on and off with no firewood needed and no cleanup necessary. We also love that it also functions as a table when not in use, making it a great value as well.
