About this deal

Children are always fascinated with learning more about these things, so engagement with this devotional should be really high. How Great Is Our God: 100 Indescribable Devotions About God and Science. Nashville, TN: Tommy Nelson. ISBN 9781400217212. OCLC 1104859319. [18] On January 11, 2013, Giglio withdrew from the second Obama inauguration at which he was due to deliver a benediction after it became known in a sermon he delivered in the 1990s he urged Christians to oppose the "aggressive agenda" of the gay rights movement. He described homosexuality as a "sin in the eyes of God, and it is sin in the word of God". [14] Louie Giglio (pronounced GIG-leo; born June 30, 1958) is an American Christian pastor. He is the leader of Passion City Church in Atlanta. The founder of the Passion Movement, he is an author and public speaker.

Each lesson begins with a scripture verse. Giglio seems to primarily use the International Children's Bible (ICB). There are also lessons from the New International Version (NIV). I'm not happy with the use of the ICB. I truly don't believe that a child needs a simplified version. It is our responsibility as parents to teach our children about God. it can lead to wonderful places when you discuss the meaning of words and concepts that you encounter in the Bible that a child doesn't understand. A conversation about what Bible version is appropriate is hugely controversial, of this I am aware. This is a review, so I'm sharing my thoughts. My children and I have chosen to look up the scripture in our personal bibles, which happen to be the English Standard Version (ESV). The kids rotate who looks up the scripture of the day. This practice helps them to locate passages in their Bible and gives them an opportunity to read God's word out loud. Redman, Matt (2011). Indescribable: encountering the glory of God in the beauty of the universe. Colorado Springs, CO: David C. Cook. ISBN 9780781406031. OCLC 759519752.Finally, the connection between the science lessons and the religious message on some of the stories seemed like the author was stretching quite a lot. Like #3, he quotes a Bible verse about Leviathan, says it sounds like a dragon. Dragons are really strong and so is God’s armor. Or #36 which details how your eyes are created in the womb and then how God gave you eyes to see His world and read the Bible. I highly recommend this little book and know it will be a treasured addition to a child's or family's library. My boys and I loved the 1st one of these, and they liked this one ok (one son more than the other), but this one kinda grated on me. It seemed far more preachy than the first. “Well it is a devotional” I hear you saying. True, but let me explain. The first one seemed to have neat little science lessons and tied them together with a simple little message about the glory of God. No doctrine, no questionable or controversial topics. This one had a few lessons that seemed a bit more personal, less universal. The 3rd lesson requires a literal reading of the Bible. There was #74 in particular about Satan hunting you (“That’s because a predator is hunting you, and his name is Satan.”) that I just don’t believe in and changed when reading. There were also several about proselytizing which I don’t agree with. This is only a portion of my review. I will be adding (or have added) many links to my review of Indescribable on my blog for supplemental study. You can find them here. Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God & Science is a wonderful homeschool resource. It is not so much a devotional as it is a book that shares some interesting tidbits of science and then relates how God's indescribable imagination, creativity, and scripture relate to the science. This book is the very first thing that my kids ask for as we begin a school day. They look forward to it. They are excited about it!

Indescribable is a new devotional for kids written by Louie Giglio, and I'm in love with it! This is an excellent resource for kids. Indescribable has 100 devotions focused on showcasing the amazing creativity of Creation from a scientific standpoint. It features cool science facts, photography, and super colorful drawings. Each devotion has scripture, a story, application, and neat stuff about science. The introduction points out that four major topics are covered in this book: space, the Earth, animals, and people.Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table: It's Time to Win the Battle of Your Mind... Thomas Nelson. ISBN 978-0785247227. Which leads to the next problem that the 1st book didn’t seem to have: this one didn’t seem to know which age range it was going for. There were some lessons that seemed advanced (#6 about the laminin in your body that holds your cells together), and then some that were far more simplistic (#100 about the metamorphosis of the caterpillar or tadpole). However, I will say Giglio does a great job of explaining the science aspect well enough that an 8 and a 5 year old were able to understand it quite well. Farias, Andree. (April 25, 2005) Christianity Today. A Passion for the Christ - Thousands of college students attend Passion worship conferences annually. We talked to the guy behind it all, Louie Giglio, a former campus pastor with a heart on fire for God. There also were repetitive lessons about how God made the stars, how there are so many stars, how vast the universe is, how different the universe is, how God hung the stars and also made you (# 10, 12, 19, 21, 28, and more). a b "Louie Giglio: The Heart Behind the Passion". [1] He grew up in the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna and graduated from Campbell High School. He studied at Georgia State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts, then he studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Theology. [2] Later he went to Grace Theological Seminary to pursue a Doctor of Ministry degree. [3] Ministry [ edit ] I recently read the book Indescribable by Louie Giglio & Matt Redman in preparation for teaching on the bigness of God. The book talks about the glory of God as seen in the beauty of the universe. Initially I was worried it would just be a retelling of the Louie Giglio message (dvd) called How Great is Our God, but it wasn’t at all. Giglio mentions the four stars from his message, but this is all new material. As mentioned above, the science topics range from space to earth, to animals to us, and it is all tied in with God and Scripture. My two daughters (both older than the targeted ages) are as in love with this as I am. And if you tied it in with the internet, looking up references, google images, and Wikipedia you can use this devotional as a faith-filled curriculum for science. My Little Man is going to be SO EXCITED to read these "scientific devotions." It will give him the opportunity to combine several of his deep, long-time loves: God, science, and reading. I love the focus Giglio has put on these four areas, and that's also the only thing I think could be improved; in the book, these four areas are all mixed up. I would have liked to see all the space devotions in the same part of the book, for instance.I Am Not But I Know I Am: Welcome to the Story of God. Sisters, OR: Multnomah. ISBN 9781590522752. But it is not only a book that can be used in a family setting. Kids themselves will wonder at the awesome God that created our world as they read through these 100 devotions on their own. An opportunity to establish a habit of daily time with God. The use of photo’s, numbers, quotes from astronomers, and scripture is outstanding. This is a very well balanced approach to examining God through His creation.Louie Giglio Books and Ministry". Christ Notes. 2007. Archived from the original on 23 February 2008.
