About this deal

While the system is smaller, better designed, and much easier to use, there’s still a lot of excess in cables poking out of the setup, especially if you’ve connected all the accessories. This is by no means a deal breaker, but moving forward, and especially with the advances in wireless technology, it’d be a very welcome addition to see these systems be able to connect without the use of all the USB cables Battery Life Wasn’t as Good as Expected Update the firmware using the DJI Ronin app by connecting the DJI RS 2 via Bluetooth. Do not disconnect the DJI Ronin app and DJI RS 2 during the update process. What makes this feature so incredible is that with ForceMobile, a feature of the Ronin App, you can control the gimbal by moving your mobile.

DJI Ronin-S remains a powerful professional-level camera gimbal, but with incredible upgrades like carbon fiber construction, a built-in touchscreen, and added stabilization technologies such as the Titan Stabilization Algorithm and SuperSmooth, DJI RS 2 takes professional filmmaking to a whole new level. If you want the most advanced filmmaking solution for camera stabilizers in this size and price category, DJI RS 2 is an unbeatable choice. DJI introduced the Titan Stabilization Algorithm for exceptionally smooth footage on DJI RS 2, and this is a significant improvement compared to DJI Ronin-S. A new gimbal feature that DJI Ronin-S does not support is SuperSmooth, which can be activated for an professional level of smoothness. This feature compensates for micromovements and increases torque to stabilize even 100mm zoom lenses. This means if you are shooting on the move with the camera in different positions, your footage will always stay sharp. Even before it came out of the box, this system was already impressing the video team and getting them hyped to use it. The gimbal is reportedly able to support a payload of up to 10lbs for up to 12 hours (if properly balanced). For the majority of our testing, the team used the Canon EOS R or R6 and the 24-105mm or the 14mm. This combo doesn’t come close to maxing out its motors, but no matter what we put on it, the motors gave no lag or resistance/strain. Unless you’re getting into big cinema rigs, the Ronin RS 2 seems capable of handling any dslr or mirrorless combo you can throw at it. Setup Is EasyTwo Stabilization Systems Offer Reworked Designs and New Creative Functions to Become Workhorses for Filmmakers and Content Creators The main changes are that the motors are 20% more powerful and it cut overall weight by 25%. Both things make a dramatic difference in performance. One fan is filmmaker Keith Knittel who put together a great list of 10 tips and features that will help anyone get better shots with the RS 2. Slotting all the parts together and everything fits snuggly without issue, the precision and accuracy of the moulding, machining and design shows. Another big change is the addition of professional RSA/NATO ports that enable the new RS 2 to be incorporated into larger, more complex rigs or control systems. This should be advice for all technology: learn the modes. If you want to get a particular look or shot you need to know how the RS 2 works in its various settings and at different follow speeds. Even if you are coming from a Ronin-S there are new modes in the RS 2.

The DJI RS 2 is a mixed bag, on the one hand, the technology blasts the previous generation out of the water. It is beautifully designed, and the attention to detail makes you take note. I also like all the added extras and on top of the prominent video features, there are also all the photo features such as panoramic, large scale image capture and plenty more. The Ronin RS 2 features advanced stabilization technology, including a high-precision algorithm and powerful motors, that ensure steady footage even in dynamic shooting situations. Its 3-axis gimbal system provides seamless pan, tilt, and roll movements, allowing precise control over camera angles and perspectives. For the majority of the test, I added the focus servo, which was easy to fit. Just attach the gear band around the lens, then all the rods and attachments you need to fit the focus motor are in the box.Aside from the differences in payload, but RS 2 and RSC 2 are essentially the same gimbal in that they offer fantastic flexibility in their features and they both keep things nice and stable with their Titan Stabilization Algorithm. But they differ in all of the ways you’ve expect from a lower-cost, entry-level product like the RSC-2. This performance limitation is somewhat disappointing, particularly when compared to its sportier counterpart, the Apache RTR 200 4V, which handles higher speeds more adeptly. Vibrations become noticeable at around 5,500rpm, primarily at the left footpeg and the handlebar, adding to the concern.

Looking at the image below, you can see the actual difference between the gen 1 and 2 gimbals. While it doesn’t seem like a lot in the photograph, every millimeter and ounce freed up makes a difference! The big feature that the team could not cover though was the vertical grip add-on. It wasn’t included with our kit so we can’t comment on the usefulness of this feature (yet). That said, let’s dive right into what you get with this gimbal and the features it provides. In this review, I’m looking at the more expensive Combo kit which includes the added extras including the focus motor, phone adapter, RavenEye and plenty more. New* Time Tunnel: The system performs a 360-degree roll while capturing a hyper-lapse, adding a level of creativity to footage. Unlike the Ronin-S where the focus wheel was attached to the side on the RS 2 the focus, the wheel is integrated into the grip and can be operated by your index finger. Out of the box, the set up was incredibly straight forward and easy. We tried out the focus motor and it was nice to control it from the scroll wheel. If I would have connected another scroll wheel I could have had one scroll wheel control the motor and the built-in wheel control a setting in the camera. Very useful on long shoots and run & gun moments. TVS has left no detail unattended when it comes to equipping the Ronin with all the expected features of a contemporary, "connected" motorcycle. The standard single-pod offset LCD display includes smartphone connectivity (exclusive to the TD variant we have here). However, all the "smart" data is consolidated into a compact digital inset, which may require some adjustment.
