F1 Medley: Willin’/Don’t Bogart That Joint (Live at Manchester Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England, 7/29/77) It’s very important for us to stay us,” Smith adds. “People want to hear and see EPMD.” That’s because We Mean Business isn’t just an album title for EPMD. It’s a mindstat

The band’s debut album The Place I Love was produced by Harrison and features extensive guitar work by the legendary musician, as well as contributions from Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) and Gary Wright (Spooky Tooth and “Dream Weaver.”)Most of the material is fairly familiar, but the singer's spirited delivery and interplay with the audience make this recording rare. It ain't about technology, it's about these transcendent versions of Allison classics performed with sidemen who get it, for people who dig it -- the real deal. Highlights include "Wildman on the Loose,""Swinging Machine,""I Live the Life I Love,""I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" and "Your Mind Is on Vacation." Recorded Live March 26, 1978 at the Showboat Lounge, Silver Springs, MD. CD1: Reap The Wild Wind [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/Serenade [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/Mine For Life [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/Hymn [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/Visions In Blue [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/When The Scream Subsides [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/We Came To Dance [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/Cut And Run [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix]/The Song (We Go) [Steven Wilson Stereo Mix] In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album, GP. Gram put together a pretty great band, including the then-unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were somewhat uneven at first, but by midtour the band started to find its groove. Willie Nelson: lead vocal & lead acoustic guitar • James Clayton Day: pedal steel guitar • Bobbie Nelson: piano • Dan Spears: bass • Paul English: drums The Doors Live in Bakersfield is one of the more unique shows from The Doors during a tumultuous 1970 when Jim Morrison was on trial on trumped-up charges in Miami. The band had been playing together live for five years, and were tight enough to be able to veer into the unknown. That’s what they opted for in this California agriculture town on a hot summer night. Featuring improvisations and medleys of The Doors many beloved hits from across their albums, Live in Bakersfield is a shamanic adventure for all who listen. Recorded August 21, 1970.

Where Did Our Love Go was the second studio album by The Supremes. Originally released in 1964, it introduced “The Motown Sound” to the masses and was, at the time, the highest-charting album by an all-female group. It reached #2 for four consecutive weeks and remained on the chart for an unprecedented 89 weeks. It includes their first #1 hits, “Where Did Our Love Go,” “Baby Love,” and “Come See About Me,” which also made them the first act in Billboard’s history to have three #1 hits from the same album. Written and produced by Motown’s main production team, Holland-Dozier-Holland, “Where Did Our Love Go” was listed by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry in 2016 due to its “cultural, historic, or artistic” significance. The album was a collaborative venture between Gordon and Hampton, and three of the compositions and all the arrangements on the album are his. The classy Jamaican trumpeter Dizzy Reese completes the front line. The rhythm section includes two jazz giants who were Gordon’s constant companions at Copenhagen’s famous Club Montmartre, fellow American expatriate pianist Kenny Drew and the great Danish bassist N-H Örsted-Peterson. The Gordon/Drew pairing is one of the classic horn-/piano matchups in jazz, and has often been compared with the Miles Davis/Red Garland and John Coltrane/McCoy Tyner pairings. Art Taylor, who “helped define the sound of modern drumming”, was brought in from Paris to complete the all-star rhythm section.

Early members O.V. Wright and James Carr — both of whom crossed over into secular music while singing with The Jubilee Hummingbirds — have guaranteed their mention in soul circles, but for a group with such a presence in their home city, and a generous multi-label discography that began on wax in the mid-‘60s and continues to this day, the Hummingbirds are a living, breathing example of the ever-present yet invisible place that gospel music, by its very design, can occupy.
