About this deal

Autofocus is virtually silent. As with other ‘stepping motor’ systems, the focus ring is electronically coupled and, in this case, enables particularly precise manual control. Would be very interested in a LoCA / bokeh comparison with the 45mm F1.8 if you still have that lens (I actually consider the 45mm a lens that renders nicely). Externally, the Z 50mm is noticeably bigger and heavier than a good old F-mount Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8G, but compared with some F-mount 50mm alternatives from Sigma and Tokina, it’s pleasingly portable. The main reason for the Art lens’s weight gain is that it has a much more complex and sophisticated optical path than its predecessor, based on 13 rather than eight elements. These include one complex aspherical element and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements.

Thank you. I will go pretty deep with this in the next update coz there is a lot to talk about CA/LoCA and bokeh. This lens is available to fit many different types of cameras, including Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Four Thirds SLRs as well as Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. In this review we'll take a look at how it performs, and whether this lens is worth the extra money this lens costs over some manufacturer's standard 50mm f/1.4 lenses. Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMCHandling and FeaturesSpeed is mediocre, it's pretty much the same as it was with any previous Samyang lenses (outside of the worst / oldest ones, on par lets say with Samyang 45/F1.8). It's not slow but it's also noticeably slower than Tamron not to mention Sony GM lenses. In the corners, however, is where we see a huge difference with the Sony-Zeiss producing a pretty poor result up to about f/5.6 – this lens really shows its age here.

The Samyang also delivered a brighter result with equal settings, showing that it continues to have good light transmission despite the additional elements in the optical design. I will note that I don’t consider light transmission to be a strength for the Planar, though I otherwise love the optical performance. From a specifications perspective, the Samyang 50mm F1.4 AF II is the lightest of the F1.4 lens , the only lighter one is the Sony Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55 mm F1.8 Overall the build quality is very good , high quality plastic and a very nice textured focusing ring but is below Sony GM or Sigma ones. What is surprising is the very low light of the lens only 420g so much lighter than the v1 Exactly. That’s why I’m keeping mine. If you’re on a budget, or you’re not particularly enamored with this focal length, it is a superb lens shooting wide open and works nicely when stopped down. At the end of a week of snowboarding in the Dolomites, I removed the Tamron 28-200 from my camera and ended up leaving the SY 50 AF ii on the camera. But it's the Opera's image quality that impresses most. Sharpness is excellent, even wide open at f/1.4, becoming simply sublime from f/2 right through to f/11. Purple fringing is very well controlled, right at the corners of the frame, and you can forget about distortion, as there simply isn't any.The bain of all lenses. With my local distributor (thanks buddy!) we went throu 4 copies of the lens to find 1 perfectly centered. Two of them were only slightly decentered (for many people these would be fine) and one was pretty bad. Overall not great but not bad either.

Combining all of the elements of this lens; the smooth aperture, the focal length and the advanced optical design makes this lens ideal for taking intimate close up product photography, either at home or in a studio environment. There is a custom switch, which can be set to allow adjustment of the aperture silently by rotating the focus ring. Using the optional Lens Station, you can set up the mode to suit your own preference*. Overall build quality of the Samyang AF 50/F1.4 is excelent, easily the biggest upgrade over any other lens they made till date. Samyang in a way always was behind Tamron/Sigma and Sony in terms of build quality but not anymore. This lens is up there with all the other top tier lenses.

Google Pixel 7a Review – new budget phone king

Samyang makes some great lenses, and the new 50mm f/1.4 FE II is an excellent example of that. It performs to an excellent high standard, it works smoothly, is weather-resistant and is reasonably priced. A 50mm lens is such a straightforward proposition and many photographers will always carry one, even those who are dedicated zoom users. In low light, it's a winner, and for a general view of the world as we see it unsurpassed. It is also good to see videography being catered for, with the option of a silent aperture control. Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA sharpness cloe up test – top left f/2, top right f/2.8, bottom left f/4, bottom right f/5.6 The new Samyang AF 50mm F1.4 FE II is a fast-aperture prime lens designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras with full-frame and APS-C sensors. When closed down the Samyang bokeh balls are worsening as of F2.8 as it does not keep the bokeh balls circular The flare pattern of the Samyang is very different compared to the Zeiss with a yellowish circle in the center but less haziness against bright light sources (see our video for the test).
