About this deal

Alaska hamster cage: The most common type of hamster cage, also known as a wire-top cage often has a plastic base with a wire mesh top which makes it easy to fix water feeders and toys to the sides. They can come in varying sizes and provide lots of space for your pet. DIY is not always the cheapest option. But it can make a larger cage. The cheapest option is probably a second hand barred cage or second hand detolf. Barred cages have their advantages, if large enough - access, ventilation and good interaction with the hamster without "walls". Your hamster will also need a big wheel - 28cm+ in diameter. A proper sized wheel can help with cage chewing too. It's still not fully unboxed and will take me about a week to get organised and set it up probably as have sent for a new shelf to fit inside it. And also need to rearrange the furniture a bit so it has something to sit on that's deep enough!

I wanted the cage at the same height as before (on top of a 78cm ish cupboard) so the front access door is about waist height. But that means it’s not easy to reach or use the top door. Without standing on a stool or something. Because the cage is so deep I could actually get quite a bit of my upper body through the front door! To arrange things inside the cage. The extra depth makes it a lot easier. I would advise caution with the detolf because lots of people have found their Syrians were quite unhappy in it. It was popularised at a time when we didn't know as much about what hamsters need, but now we know that they need a good few inches of bedding for burrowing, which the detolf just can't provide in addition to a wheel and some tallish toys. It's just too low. It's also too narrow. Syrians don't like living in a narrow cage, it feels too restrictive. It's always better to judge a cage by its dimensions, not by how many square inches of floor space it has.

Ferplast Favola Two-Tier Hamster Cage

These clear acrylic screens are custom made to fit a Savic Plaza and replace the wall bars that are supplied with the cage. The “Savic Plaza Complete Cage Screens” transform the look of your Savic Plaza making it look like there is nothing between you and your hamster. If you enjoyed learning about the Savic Hamster Plaza and want to explore different cage options for your tiny critters, you may want to read about: Once the screens have been fitted the top of the enclosure will require two people to lift it off. This is because with the screens fitted the top of the enclosure is quite heavy, and also because you need to support the acrylic screens while you are lifting the top off or they will tend to slip out of the bottom of the framework.

In terms of a wheel – the bedding depth will be limited to about 17cm deep in the wheel area, with a 12” wheel. Although the cage is 50cm tall (interior height), the curved roof bars limit how high a wheel can sit (if screwed to the bars). I just have a slightly lower area of bedding in front of the wheel and about 20cm or more in the rest of the cage. This took a LOT of bedding! I used most of a 10kg bag of Fitch plus about half the bedding from the standard Plaza cage! Our Syrian hamster, who we’ve had for 13 wks has been chewing at her cage constantly. She’s chewed at any of the plastic (base) she can & has now chewed a hole in it! She chews at the bars too (and yes she climbs across them in acrobat style!)

Will These Screens Work For You ?

Russian dwarf hamster: Similar to a winter white, Russian dwarf hamsters are also small but not as easy to handle. They make good pets and have a life span of around two years. Value for money – this cage isn’t the cheapest on the market, but it does represent extremely good value for money because it is a much larger environment than some of the less expensive cages that are available. The Savic Hamster Plaza also comes with accessories included, where many cages do not. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SAVIC PLAZA ENCLOSURE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING, JUST THE REPLACEMENT SCREENS *** Fitting Easy to assemble – this cage is easy to put together, with the upper section slotting easily on to the lower section. Roborovskii hamsters: A very sociable breed Robrovskii hamsters are nocturnal but very sweet-natured. What are the types of hamster cages?

Perfect size – measuring 100 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm, the cage is a good size for keeping hamsters. All varieties of hamster should be comfortable in this cage, including Syrian, Chinese and Roborovski dwarf hamsters. As PetHelpful.com notes, there’s some inconsistency from various animal welfare groups about the exact dimensions of the cage, which has led the RSPCA to suggest “as large as possible”.It's an upgrade for Raffy (who has always needed a bit more space being a very active Syrian). So the idea is to keep the layout exactly the same as he has now, for familiarity and so the upgrade doesn't stress him. The wood shelf in his current cage won't be long enough so have sent for another wood shelf and will re use the hemp mat from his current shelf on top of it (so it smells familiar) and add a bit more to fill in the gap. The contents seem to be the same as for the standard Savic Plaza. The same green shelf and ladder and the same Savic Rolly wheel, which isn’t big enough. Plus a bottle and bowl and small plastic house. I didn’t use any of the contents. The plastic house isn’t suitable for sleeping in (although a hamster might like it as a treat store perhaps). I already have a bottle and food dish and large wheel. Whether you are just about to get your first hammie and you are trying to find the best home for them or you are an experienced owner looking to upgrade from an existing cage, we know that it can be really tough choosing one. We understand that there are a lot of options available, so we have taken a look across the range of cages that are on sale and one of our favourites is the Savic Hamster Plaza. Best features of the Savic Hamster Plaza

I managed to obtain a Savic Plaza 120 cage which arrived the other day. The box was so big it had to stay in the porch until I could find somewhere to put it. I'll do a proper review later, but for now I can just describe it as a bigger Savic Plaza 100! As a hamster owner, you will know that amongst the most vital things you can do for your pet is to provide them with a secure and enriching environment to live in. Purchasing a suitable habitat for them to live in is therefore absolutely essential, but not every cage or tank will work for your little hammie. Savic hamster plaza With the 0.8cm bar spacing (ie 8mm bar spacing) it would be suitable for all species of hamster (except some smaller robos perhaps). It would need deeper bedding for dwarf hamsters due to the height, to effectively reduce the height of the cage and make it safe for a dwarf hamster. For a Syrian hamster you can easily manage 20cm of bedding or more in places, except in the wheel area, with a 12" wheel. Surprisingly, once it was set up in the same place as the previous standard Plaza cage, it didn't seem to take up much more room - although obviously is longer and deeper. There are some before and after photos of that on the video below. When it comes to the cage and its contents, it needs to have a dark nesting box shelter and a quiet, private place to hide - the more choice, the better, because hamsters are timid creatures and can easily be spooked. I wouldn't saying it's too low for a Syrian, unless they just think a Syrian sized wheel wouldn't fit. It's about an inch lower than the hamster heaven though. What do you think? I think it could be fine for a Syrian, with the right wheel - it's a long 100cm cage. The wheel end wouldn't have any substrate but could be sectioned off. There are some advantages to lower cages - the rat sputniks hang lower and they can just climb into them . It’s a really big cage. It’s obviously much larger than the Standard Savic Plaza cage but not overwhelmingly so and just feels like a larger Savic Plaza cage without being too large to handle. Yes we could get her an even bigger cage for a lot of money, but what would stop her from chewing that? DH isn’t convinced that it’s the size of the cage that’s the problem, he thinks she just likes chewing & being out as she just sleeps during the day. At the moment I have the base out of the box. It's clearly a deeper base, but surprisingly doesn't seem quite so enormous as I imagined. I plan to keep his layout the same as now, with the same items, but there will be more space so may add a couple more shelves and some more floor items. I actually have perspex panels already - to fit the 100cm cage so intend to use those (even though there will be the odd gap).
