With Heriot Watt we’ve developed a strong understanding of botanicals, and are developing a botanical dictionary, if you like, of which botanicals give exactly what effects. It’s a science. We did a lot of work on wood finishes when I was with Glenmorangie, and that was all much less specific than the use of botanicals. You had all the variables of oak. My first thought upon seeing the name was how common it seems to be to draw associations between whisky and animals, but I’m a fan of Monkey Shoulder which sounds even weirder so… why not?

It recalls the oak of the barrel, which brings some deeper, mellower tones to the dram. These go well with the cereal notes of the nose. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. With Water: A few drops of water make the licorice/anise note more piercing, now smelling more like cardamom. Other than that, no change except for a slightly sweeter root beer note on the finish. I don’t see a reason to bother with water for this dram. Gordon's pretty much game for anything, as long as it's got purpose. I think that if I ever had him do something that was strictly... because it was funny or something like that, that would not be well-received. But if it's got purpose, I mean, the fact is they needed extra fuel for the smoker. So he understood, this is how we do it. So he's usually game as long as there's a reason for it. Sometimes he'll look over at me and roll his eyes and say, 'Come on, Jon.' But I figure if I'm not pushing him to his limits, I'm not doing my job. SMALL BATCH PRODUCED – The whiskies are matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks and blended in small batches for up to 6 months, then married to achieve a smoother, richer taste before bottling at 40% Alcohol by Volume.
