Because the Jungle Bag is only rated down to 45°F, I only recommend it for mild to warm weather. Unless you combine it with another survival blanket, it really is best for tropical conditions. Another option is to use the Jungle Bag as a sleeping bag liner inside of a warmer sleeping bag to increase insulation to stay warm even in very cold weather. Pros and Cons of Snugpak Jungle Bag

Can become a poncho, has handles for wrapping around body or hanging, sewn through boxes hold down in place The REI Camp Blanket is also constructed out of 100% polyester including both the outer shell and the insulation. I sleep quite warm so I personally stayed warm enough using this sleeping bag with just long underwear, although I was far from toasty. With my family, everyone tries to “call” the blanket to use around the campfire due to how comfortable it is. There isn’t really a great way to rate comfort other than to tell you this blanket is really soft and comfortable. WarmthI`ve taken the Jungle Bag out into the field several times here in Washington State. I have a thorough understanding of how it will perform in a variety of survival situations. There is only one issue I have with the Snugpak Jungle Blanket, and it’s actually pretty minor. I’m six foot one inches tall (73 inches), the blanket is 76″ x 64″. I`ll be completely honest I`ve only taken it out a handful of times, but I plan to use it extensively this summer (and will update this review as I do).

I’ve found this true with nearly all fabrics. Many people like wool because it retains heat when wet also, but most all of these people have never been in a situation where they needed wool layers to keep them warm when wet. Wool will retain heat, but it’s much colder when wet due to the evaporation going on. If you’re dressed appropriately to be outdoors in 45 degrees (hoodie, pants, maybe a hat) and you use the Jungle Blanket for added warmth, you’ll be plenty warm. But, if you try to wrap up with just the Jungle Blanket on a 45-degree night, you are going to freeze. The Snugpak Jungle Blanket hits all of the needs and wants I have in a survival and general camping blanket. My bug-out bag is something to get me by for a few weeks at most in a survival situation rather than provide long-term support.

But please do not mistake this for “keeps you warm when wet”. I acutally thing Snugpak states it correctly when they say “retains heat when wet”. Size and weight are always a consideration and it seems that Snugpak found a happy medium where they can have a blanket that is useful yet not too big and heavy. Water Resistance / Performance When Wet Water Resistance Just remember that it`s not a bivy, despite the built-in bug net. It`s definitely still just a sleeping bag that should be combined with some sort of shelter, like a tarp, whenever possible. The Kelty Biggie, Kelty Bestie, and SnugPak Jungle all score well across our tests, with price tags that are easier on the wallet, making them high-value commodities. On the other hand, the Kammok Firebelly and Rumpl Down Blanket perform very well and are extremely handy in specific situations that call for low weight and high compressibility, making them well worth the hefty investment. ComfortSnugpak has mastered the comfort factor with the Jungle Blanket while making it water resistant and warm. The Jungle Blanket has a soft comfortable feel that literally surprised everyone who’s had a chance to use it when I’ve taken it on camping trips. I recommend looking at other options for day-to-day use, long-term expeditions, or semi-permanent survival, but this sleeping bag is a fantastic addition to your emergency kit. The Jungle Blanket is filled with Snugpak’s Travelsoft insulation. They claim this insulation is ultra-lightweight, yet high loft and retains heat when wet. The Jungle Bag will certainly get the job done in nighttime temperatures down to 50°F or so for most sleepers, but you`ll likely need to pair it with warm clothes, a sleeping bag liner, a mylar space blanket, or additional blanket in anything lower than 60°F.
