The characters, setting, and action are all excellent in this book…The action is exciting, and as the story comes to a close, there are twists and turns that are unbelievably satisfying for any fan of crime thrillers. Karp does an excellent job of carrying on the NYPD Red series.” San Francisco Book Review (5 stars) He is also the author of the critically acclaimed Lomax and Biggs Mysteries featuring LAPD Detectives Mike Lomax and Terry Biggs, who work homicide out of the Hollywood Division. James Patterson’s NYPD Red series is another favourite of mine and is something different given that it focuses on police officers who are tasked with protecting New York’s elite. It’s hard to believe that this is the fifth book in the series already. It was an enjoyable read and without doubt one of my favourites in the series so far. I love Zach and Kylie and felt that the storyline here was one of the best out of the five books.

I thought these were handled pretty well. There were elements of Zach's story that seemed like pretty large coincidences, but if a reader isn't willing to accept a convenient coincidence here and there, it might be time for a new hobby. I do think that story was handled pretty well. In this 2nd book in the 'NYPD Red' series, the elite police unit is chasing the Hazmat Killer. The book can be read as a standalone. The main plot consist of a New York film festival hoping to attract the biggest stars was an instant pull.Join the NYPD Red team in their most explosive case ever. The series from James Patterson and Marshall Karp has always been a must-read. But Karp’s latest, NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority, tops them all, making it a must-read-now! Marshall Karp nails the core of a gritty on-the-streets crime thriller that couples authentic police procedural elements with an unremitting pace filled with crafty and ingenious twists and turns…NYPD Red 7: Murder Sorority is one of the most energetic and engaging thrillers of the year and it’s one you can’t miss out on. An indisputable must-read. James Patterson could not have passed down the torch to a more suited author than Karp.” Kashif Hussain, Best Thriller Books As if that weren’t enough for the two detectives, they are drawn into a robbery at a high-stakes, private poker game. Could one of the players be involved in the heist? And are Zach’s suspicions about one of the players valid? At the same time, as the body count rises, can Zach and Kylie find the answers they need to capture the murderer and put an end to the killings?

Meanwhile, in a probably unrelated incident, Kylie's boyfriend is shot. Officially barred from investigating (and she is front-and-center on a case the media and City Hall are focused on), Kylie is mostly watching this from the sidelines—but manages to help the detectives on the case while worried about his recovery. In this installment, a Harvey Weinstein type is unbelievably exonerated of killing a police officer and as he steps up to a microphone on the courthouse steps to gloat, an invisible sniper delivers Wild West justice. And then another assasination simultaneously takes place (the scumbag’s equally scummy brother who also got away with murder). So it seems that there is militarily trained squad of killers for hire (known as Kappa Omega Delta/KOD — Killers on Demand) operating in NYC. The subtitle of the book is “The Murder *Sorority*” and not “Murder *Fraternity.*” A clue for the reader in advance of Kylie and Zach uncovering what’s really going on? Or people who “were gender-fluid before it was cool”? This investigation is further complicated when someone close to the team is shot in a seemingly unrelated incident. The various shenanigans that follow put the detectives in a difficult situation. To add to the pressure, another potential victim is kidnapped and will undoubtedly be killed if the Hazmat Killer isn't apprehended very soon. The book is well-written, with an entertaining police-procedural plot and a variety of characters who add interest to the story including a mafia family, detectives, politicians, a priest, a drug addict, and so on. There's also a bit of romance: Zach is conflicted because - though he has a girlfirend - he's still not completely over his love affair with Kylie (his partner) a decade before.Detective Zach Jordon, of the NYPD Red squad, is on Benoit's trail, along with his partner Kylie MacDonald - an old girlfriend that Zach went through the police academy with. NYPD Red is a special squad put in place to protect the cities most influential people. On top of chasing criminals Zach must play third wheel to Spence, Kylie's interfering husband.

Marshall Karp takes over sole writing responsibility on the NYPD Red series, after collaborating on the previous novels with James Patterson. With intensity being a key element of the series to date, Karp has large shoes to fill, but does so with ease, keeping things on par with past publications. A gripping set of crimes, great character development, and some humour where it matters most, Karp is sure to impress series fans and has me wanting to explore some of his other solo work. From the 1st chapter to the last you were drawn in to the lives of the characters. The police, the would be victims, and the psycho path and the woman that would follow him to the end of the earth. I enjoy how he twisted a love story, a simple love story (nothing sappy), and suspense, on the part of the work of the detectives & the bad guy. You knew he was going to do something else , but what? You knew the detectives would catch him but how? NYPD Red is a prestigious police task force assigned to high-profile crimes concerning elite New Yorkers. Kylie MacDonald and Zach Jordan are the two detectives that readers are familiar with from the beginning and I like their partnership. Their characters are what kept me reading and of course, the mysteries are solid as well. I really enjoyed the pacing of this series with short chapters and mini cliffhangers after each one. But the thing is, sometimes I want to watch "Olympus Has Fallen". And sometimes I want to read the cheesiest James Patterson novel I can find.Wow!! What a ride! I think doing a reread of these series finally and doing the audiobooks on the Libby App, these have been like reading them again for the first time and I realized how much I didn't remember this one if I'm being honest here. But goodness I seriously loved this one like crazy. The story was good, I loved Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, but mainly Zach even more and was reminded why I loved these characters way too much and wish they were on screen.
