When choosing a tomato variety, remember that there is more to consider than just colour, as Gardener Hannah Reid shares: Yellow Brandywine tomatoes are a late-season variety coming out of Ohio with a slightly tart but sweet flavor and often produce more orange tomatoes. These are fun because they don’t have regular tomato leaves, they look more like potato leaves. Yellow Brandywine is great for getting delicious tomato sandwiches in the summer months. The ‘Yellow Pear’ tomato produces many small pear-shaped fruits. This heirloom variety is a classic in home gardens. The plants are robust and healthy, and their fruits have a mild and sweet taste. While the tumbling tom does tend to be shorter than other tomato varieties, it is not always the case, and some plants may produce fruit continuously. So, which is it? This variety prospers even without rain protection.

The delicious Mexican-style salsa can easily be made with yellow tomatoes. It’s even better when you use a mix of red and yellow tomatoes. Tomato Soup Trailing tomatoes areself-branching, so other than pinching the tip out when you plant them up, there is no need to do anything else to them, unlike other tomato varieties - so they're ideal to growif you're not a confident gardener. Bury the roots deeply (up to first ‘seed’ leaves on the stem) and water well, to settle the compost around them.
