Description

Use the video below to help your class understand that everyone has their own different talents and that not everyone is the same. I love all about me books for so many reasons, but mostly because they help teach kids about themselves and how to express themselves, too. Caldecott Honor winner Rachel Isadora’s sweet and simple introduction to the five senses is perfect for the youngest children, who will recognize themselves in charming vignettes portraying a wide range of childhood activities. Hearing, smelling, seeing, touching, tasting–our five senses allow us to experience the world in so many ways! With our ears we hear the birds sing. We use our nose to smell the stinky cheese. Our eyes can see the moon and stars (and sometimes glasses help us see even better!); with our skin we feel the rain (and learn not to touch the hot stove!); and with our tongue we can taste our favorite foods. Isadora’s lively art reveals the power and delight of each sense.

From a wiggle of their shoulders to a stomp of their feet, a group of lovable toddlers joyfully explores the many ways to use their bodies. Lips can be made small for kissing, while arms can go up and down or reach out to hug those we love. Judy Hindley’s jaunty text and Brita Granstrom’s playful illustrations are perfect for children as they begin to discover the wonders of their bodies and the joy of learning to move. Feelings are neither good nor bad, they simply are. Kids need words to name their feelings, just as they need words to name all things in their world. The Way I Feel uses strong, colorful, and expressive images which go along with simple verses to help children connect the word and the emotion. Your child will learn useful words, and you will have many chances to open conversations about what’s going on in her/his life. access to All About Me Printable Book Templates as well as all other printables in our membership library

Curriculum

Me I Am! follows three different children as they reveal their individual personalities over the course of different adventures. Depending on the age of your preschoolers, you may notice a difference in how you approach this theme. Younger preschoolers will typically want to talk predominantly about themselves. Spend this time discovering their favorite foods, learning about the things they love, talking about their immediate family, and of course favorite colors!

After exploring facial features in a mirror, kids use art supplies like paper and string to make a picture of each family member. There are so many great learning skills practiced in this activity – creativity, fine motor skills, and family member names/roles. All About Me Books At the preschool age, young children are very egocentric and tend to focus on their own wants and perspectives. Not to fret, this is completely normal and developmentally appropriate for this age group! As children grow older, they start to develop empathy and are able to see different points of view.
