Description

It’s best practise to aerate your lawn now in late Autumn, as that will give your lawn a few weeks for it to recover before winter strikes. By using this type of tine aerator, it will allow water and air to circulate better through it. It also ensures heavy rainfall won’t ruin your lawn, which can easily be caused by waterlogging. Both the aerator and scarifier functions work well. In most cases, this machine will aerate and scarify at the same time (depending on the height setting it is set to). The scarifier is very capable of removing large amounts of moss and lawn thatch. There are 42 stainless steel claws on the roller which help produce this result. For an electric machine, it’s reasonably noisy at 102 dB, so you may need to use ear protectors. For reference, 100 dB is a similar level of noise to a hand drill. It should go without saying that the following tools, even though they are sharp, won’t penetrate hard lawns, but then little will! In these cases you’ll need to water first or wait for rain. Lawn Aerator Sandals or Shoes

Aside from the plug (core) handheld aerator, Yard Butler offers a spike handheld aerator which is better for sandy or loamy soil. The plug type has two tines that will penetrate up to 3.5 inches. The spike aerator has four 3-inch spikes. Both aerators are made of rust-resistant powder-coated steel, measuring 37 inches high and weighing around 4 pounds. Each has rubber padded handles and a footrest for ease in pushing the aerator into the soil. Now we’ll explain some key things to consider when buying a lawn aerator, helping you find the right type of aerator for your lawn. Benefits of aerating your lawn Loosening the soil, improving the supply of oxygen, and creating good drainage creates a good environment for new grass seed, whilst benefitting any existing lawn. One of the most efficient (and fun?) ways to aerate your lawn, these Ohuhu Lawn Aerator Shoes are wearable aerators. These spiked aerator ‘shoes’ attach to the bottom of your regular shoes using velcro straps. Simply walk around the garden, and the spikes at the bottom will be pushed down into the soil under your weight. These garden tools are very efficient, and can offer good penetration, especially if weighed down. They normally have hollow tines as well, which is great. The galvanized spikes can penetrate to a depth of 2.5 inches, and it has a lever for height adjustment. The flat-free tires roll smoothly and will never need to be filled. With a three-year limited warranty, this solid steel aerator will last through many years of lawn care. This is another pitchfork-style plug aerator, similar to the Yard Butler aerator we looked at previously. The difference? This aerator is three times the price. There are anti-slip pads on the part of the shoe that connects to the sole of your own shoes, helping to prevent slipping.

Roller spike aerators are the most popular type of lawn aerator. Many are simply pushed across the lawn. As the roller rotates, the spikes are pushed into the ground. Spiked lawn aerators are either manual or electric. These types of aerators are best suited to those with small gardens as they do require a bit of manual work, but are well worth it because they are cheaper than electric/petrol machines. You can either use a normal garden pitch fork or hollow tine pitch fork to make the holes (with the pitch fork you’ll get little spikes in the ground, whereas with the hollow tines you’ll dig up plugs of turf). Hollow tines will open up the soil much more effectively so if your soil is heavily compacted or if you want to do a more thorough job then it is better to go with this option. For this kind of work you need something more subtle, and you need to be more in control, and that is why a hand powered lawn aerator like this one is perfect for the job. One major benefit of hand tools like this is they require very little setting up. This product arrives pretty much completely assembled and only requires you to fit the rear metal guard and handle on to it and you are ready to go. Spiked shoes might penetrate about 4cm deep, while a proper pitchfork hollow tine plug lawn aerator will go as deep as 10cm.

Each shoe comes with 13 solid spikes, which penetrate at a depth of about 5.5cm when pushed all the way down. They make a great way to create deep aeration holes efficiently, on a small lawn. However, the spike depth on rolling spike aerators isn’t great – normally they will only penetrate 3-4cm deep. For example, clay soils become compacted quite easily, as they have small particles that clump together easily. This means that you need to aerate your grass more often. But it also means that aeration will be more difficult – the more compact the soil, the tougher it will be to aerate, especially when dry. There are a number of different types of aerators you can use to aerate your lawn. Here are some of the most common ones, and what they’re good for. Hollow tine aerators

Frequently Asked Questions About The Push Pull Lawn Roller

This particular rolling aerator is reasonably priced, and is quite wide, at 30cm. It’s not the best aerator for large lawns, but allows for efficient aerating of small gardens. You can go for a walk and improve the quality of your lawn at the same time with the Ohuhu Lawn Aerator Shoes. Each shoe has 13 solid spikes that can penetrate up to 2 inches deep. The adjustable velcro hook and loop straps keep the shoe attached to your existing boot or sturdy garden shoe. At 12 inches long and 5 inches wide, they can fit most adults' shoes. We also like that they are also easy to store in a shed or outdoor storage bin and require no assembly (aside from attaching to your shoes!). For an easier way to aerate the lawn than using a standard garden fork, this Rolling Lawn Aerator gets the job to be done with a simple push motion.
