Star Wars: Outer Rim – Unfinished Business is the expansion for the main game. This expands the original game with new characters to choose from, adding previously mentioned monikers and goals to shoot for, and provides an easy getaway from organization starships that you might run into along the space path. This also provides more detailed missions, more bounties, more ships, and more goodies in the market. It’s a great expansion and stays true to enhancing the experience and making it more than just another Star Wars game. That said, let’s break it down a bit. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. 2022 Board Game Award Winners Best Cooperative Game Planning Step – During this step, the active player may gain credits, move across the galaxy, or recover all of their damage. Also, you’re no longer confined to the titular Outer Rim, you can now head off to the core worlds held by the Empire. The core worlds are basically 2 new map pieces that sit at either end of the board. They give you 2 new places to have encounters, but they also allow you to zip across to the other side of the board in less than 5 parsecs. This can be quite useful as the patrol ships can’t follow you, so you can use it as a chance to escape their grasp. But as the core worlds are under Imperial control you may be in for a rough time if you’ve got a negative reputation with them. Star Wars: Outer Rim is a board game for one to four players centred around the lives of bounty hunters, mercenaries and smugglers operating in the furthest reaches of the galaxy. As one of these exiles, players will be able to explore the outer rim of the galaxy to take on jobs, hunt down criminals and embark on adventures to earn themselves renown. In Outer Rim, you take on the role of an underworld denizen, setting out to make your mark on the galaxy. You’ll travel the Outer Rim in your personal ship, hire legendary Star Wars characters to join your crew, and try to become the most famous (or infamous) outlaw in the galaxy! First and foremost is a spread of new ships, such as the scrappy Rogue -Class Porax-38 Starfighter and the rebellious VCX-100 Light Freighter Yet since its release in 2019, gamers have been clamoring for an expansion. Because bigger is better, there's now a bigger table (if you like it, give some love to the mod there) The first step in the game is choosing your character. Each player in the game gets to choose which character they want to play, which consists of some familiar faces, such as Han Solo, and can get down and dirty with bounty hunters and lesser-known smugglers. Whoever you choose to play as comes with a set of attributes, goals they must accomplish, and proficiencies, as well as a starting salary. Starting with the former, each character can have proficiencies such as stealth, tech, pilot, influence, strengths, and tactics. These can be doubled up when you add more characters to your player’s crew. If I added Boba Fett to my crew with Han as a leader, they both might have to pilot a ship as a proficiency, which means I have a strong proficiency in piloting. That will come into play when I play the game. You want to pay attention to these proficiencies, as they will be vital for success in the galaxy. They’re a wonderful addition to strategy in this game and directly related to rolling dice during combat.With your character and ship close at hand, you’re ready for your first adventure in the Outer Rim. On your turn, you’ll begin in the planning phase, and you're immediately faced with a choice of how to spend your time. Taking odd jobs around your current location earns you 2,000 credits, but prevents you from moving. Making repairs to your ship ensures you’re ready for a fight, but again anchors you to your current location. These options can prepare you for the encounters to come, but you’ll never become a legend if you don’t take to the stars. Your final option is movement, travelling along hyperspace routes from planet to planet in search of fame and credits.
