Description

I’ve lived by these words since I was five years old. They’ve served me well through many cold nights spent alone. They’re doubly useful when I find myself killing, which is more often than not. The pirate queen has many enemies, and I’m the one she sends to take care of them. Sorinda was an unexpected new favourite. While I enjoyed the first two books in the Daughter of the Pirate King series, I never really connected with the main character Alosa. She’s badass and cool for sure, and I did appreciate her character. But the difference with Sorinda is tangible. Her feelings of being misplaced, her fear of being a failure and constantly feeling like she had taken water over her head just hit differently. She just resonated with me on a deeper level. Who knew that an assassin pirate could make me cry. Her crew and herself must navigate through treacherous waters, and they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who summons an army of undead soldiers from the depth. He’ll do anything to claim what he belies is his and Sorinda must do everything in her power to survive, With the infuriating Kearan by her side, she manages to keep her head, and her life, while trying to save the world. Will she and her crew manage to save the world or will she face a fate worse than death: becoming an undead queen controlled by the King of the Undersea himself? I’ll guess you’ll have to read the book to find out but it’ll be worth the read, promise.

Kearan made her face all of her shortcomings - or what she thought of as shortcomings and I loved both of them together. I also loved Kearan and Enwen's friendship but I'd also would have liked to see more of it. As I let my dagger drift closer to his throat, I replace the face before me with one from my memories. One with lighter skin, a beauty mark on the left side of his forehead, a single gold hoop high up on one ear. Straw-colored hair and a clean-shaven face. A cleft in the middle of the chin. The original Daughter of the Pirate King duology focused on half-siren pirate queen, Alosa. As her personal assassin, Sorinda is her right hand, so when a ship of Alosa's goes missing Sorinda is tasked with captaining a rescue crew. 20-year-old Kearan Erroth, to her dismay, is going to be the helmsman. The age of 'assassin' heroines who NEVER killed anyone (looking at you, Celaena Sardothien) is long gone. I also really enjoyed the male love interest, Kearan. Even though he always wears his heart of his sleeve when it comes to Sorinda, he only serves to be a safe space for Sorinda. Kearan is a beast of a man, but he’s 100% a cinnamon roll.

After Sorinda emptied all his alcohol overboard, he started to clean himself up - so he no longer drinks and has put on some muscle, though of course he'll never be handsome. Fortunately, he appears to have got over the irritating little crush he harboured on her. She can't be dealing with pesky things like emotions. Right? Especially not when she and her crew wash up on an island, where she accidentally awakens Threydan, the immortal King of the Undersea, who decides he wants her as his bride. I could do it now, I suppose. Just roll over, grab my dagger from its sheath at my side, and slice his throat. This story follows Sorinda, an assassin for Alosa who must captain a crew for a rescue mission with a sailing master she despises. Sorinda has to put personal feelings aside before she winds up becoming an undead queen. A rip-roaring high seas escapade with a tinge of fantasy, Daughter of the Pirate King will engage and enthrall its teen audience." — Shelf Awareness on Daughter of the Pirate King I loved every moment of this book, and it was an easy 4 stars for me. I am very hopeful that there will be more books in this wonderful series.
