Royal Mail has today revealed a set of stamps, celebrating Aardman’s most popular and beloved animated characters. David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy, Royal Mail said: “This set of stamps will surely bring a smile to everyone’s face. These instantly recognisable, iconic animated characters have found a place in our hearts. We are certain they will add a bit of joy to any envelope.” Aardman was co-founded by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, who were friends at school. Their first films were animated on the Sproxtonsʼ kitchen table, and they were still teenagers when one was shown on BBC television. Wallace and Gromit travel to the Moon in search of cheese in A Grand Day Out, a short film made in 1989.

A selection of Royal Mail stamps, each with a beloved character created at Bristol's Aardman Animations have been unveiled today. The limited edition collection will go on sale next week, and includes a miniature sheet for collectors.
Customers can scan the coding – which takes the form of a rectangular 2D barcode – in the Royal Mail app and will eventually be able to watch videos, information about services, or birthday messages and other greetings from senders. First day covers and stamp cards are available as usual, along with a press sheet of 12 unguillotined miniature sheets. Speaking about the collaboration, Royal Mail’s director of external affairs and policy David Gold said: “This set of stamps will surely bring a smile to everyone’s face. These instantly recognisable, iconic animated characters have found a place in our hearts. We are certain they will add a bit of joy to any envelope.”
