Description

The mixture of clay and gravel guarantees drainage and avoids water stagnation; the predominantly calcareous composition of the soil gives the grapes all their typical mineral component and characterizes the wines with unmistakable sapidity. A pale lemon yellow wine with a delicate fresh youthful nose of lemon, apple and touch of pear. The palate also mixes notes of citrus, apple and pear fruit, in this clean, light, fresh, dry, balanced, simple but refreshing and well made white; good value too.

She also arranges gourmet meals in the nearby village of Vallegio sul Mincio and stays at Boffenigo Panorama & Experience, a four-star hotel and wellness center perched on a hilltop with a view of the lake. The Consortium celebrated its 50 year anniversary in 2021, marking the occasion with national and international masterclasses, both in person and digitally, with high-profile professionals. Classes reached operators and media in Italy, England, USA, Canada, Europe and Japan. It's actually a very beautiful volcanic area that's UNESCO world-recognised, producing gorgeous sparkling wines at different price points that I hope you enjoy.

While the Bonomo family make wonderful Chiaretto rosé, Bardolino and some of the freshest, most elegant Valpolicella wines I’ve tasted, it’s their two Custoza wines that I want you to know about.

Located 10 minutes from both Verona and Lake Garda, Custoza’s strategic position is key to tourism in the region, which is dotted with theme parks, gardens, paths, nature trails, extremely close to cities of art.Wine Vintage 2006 | Wine Vintage 2007 | Wine Vintage 2008 | Wine Vintage 2009 | Wine Vintage 2010 | Wine Vintage 2011 Wine from Bierzo | Wine from Carinena | Wine from Douro | Wine from Montsant | Wine from Priorat | Wine from Penedès | Wine from Rioja | Wine from Ribera del Duero | Wine from Somontano The producer’s sensitivity and ability to interpret the land plays a decisive role in defining the blend that corresponds to the company’s style.

The village consists of a central settlement and 3 detached, but close, quarters: Valbusa (west – 45°22′29.2″N 10°47′20.2″E / 45.374778°N 10.788944°E / 45.374778; 10.788944), Gorgo (east – 45°22′45.5″N 10°48′17.7″E / 45.379306°N 10.804917°E / 45.379306; 10.804917) and Bellavista (south – 45°22′19.3″N 10°47′36.7″E / 45.372028°N 10.793528°E / 45.372028; 10.793528). Its territory includes the surrounding little localities of Bagolina, Balconi Rossi, Coronini, [8] Marognalonga, Monte Godio, Sgaripola and Vantini. Mechanical technologies are used to contain weeds, avoiding the use of herbicides, and more than 35% of the Custoza vineyard area is cultivated under organic certification or SQNPI, with sustainable techniques. Other sparkling wines, especially now traditional-method sparkling wines are starting to come to the fore in Italy. Custoza is a rural village located in the southwestern corner of its municipality, next to Villafranca di Verona (6km south), Valeggio sul Mincio (7km west), and Tione dei Monti river. It is 5km from Sommacampagna, 10 from Sona and Caselle, 12 from Verona-Villafranca Airport and 20 from Verona city centre. [7]Harvest: The harvest is done completely manually, starting from the second week of September, following the different maturation time of the vines. The last vine to be harvested is Garganega, at the beginning of October. An easy panoramic path to Custoza starts from the church square of San Pietro in Vinculis. Near the church, there is convenient parking and signs for the paths of Custoza. The path of the Tamburino Sardo is a circular path of about 3 km, pleasant and immersed in the vineyards that take its name from the story of a brave boy, the legendary Tamburino Sardo, whose sacrifice was narrated by Edmondo de Amicis in the book “Heart.” The Custoza production is around 130 quintals/ha for the Custoza DOC and 120 quintals/ha for the Superiore. The wines included in the DOC are Custoza, Custoza Riserva, Custoza Superiore, Custoza Spumante and Custoza Passito. The winery’s vineyards are among the most extensive in Verona covering 137 hectares, which they own, and another 68 that are leased. Food pairing? Anything. Really. Both wines have the mettle, depth, breadth and vitality, but also, most importantly, dignified grace, to pair with pretty much anything. I say ‘dignified grace’ because these are not shouty, showy wines that will overshadow delicate dishes. At the same time, they have the gumption to hold their own with shouty, showy food. You could pair these wines across the spectrum, from ceviche to steak. I recently had a meal with the most beautiful roast venison, and I wish I could have tried this wine with it. I’m willing to bet good money it would have outstripped the red wines we had on the table. There are few wines, red and white, I can think of which could be this catholic and generous when it comes to food.

Custoza DOC can only be produced from grapes from vineyards on the hills and foothills of the municipalities of its nine municipalities.

The Custoza Passito DOC wine is a type of wine made using the traditional oenological method of drying. The Custoza Passito DOC wine has a strong, fruity scent and is amber in color. On the palate, it is smooth and velvety, with a flavor that leans heavily toward honey and dried fruit. That makes it one of the area’s most prominent producers and allows it to offer a comprehensive portfolio of wines (and styles) from all the appellations in the region – Lugana, Custoza, Bardolino, Chiaretto di Bardolino, Valpolicella and Soave. Most wines are made at the Sommacampagna winery, and 1.5 million bottles are produced annually. ORIGIN: the origin of the Cortese vine, which in the Custoza area is known as Bianca Fernanda, is not specific, but it is believed that it derives from the provinces of Alessandria, Novara, and Tortonese and has been known in Piedmont since the 18th century also with dialectal terms corteis, courtesia and courteis. The specification grants it from 0 to 30 percent.
