Do I long to gaze on his beauty so that I may reflect him? In that wonderful verse, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Paul says we are to be mirrors reflecting the loveliness, the glory, the beauty of Jesus, so that others looking at us will see him. Is that really happening? Is that really an expression that describes me? Albert Orsborn, “Let the Beauty of Jesus Be Seen in Me.” Orsborn was General of the Salvation Army (1946–1952) This latest entry in the Do Great Things for God series is one of my favorites. As a nurse, I’m very happy to show my children how they can honor God through medical work! Roseveare’s story is especially meaningful as she uses her medical profession to do missionary work. In mid-March of 1953, at the age of 28, she arrivedin the northeastern region of the Congo (later named Zaire).

Dr Helen Roseveare, the renowned English missionary to the Congo, has passed away at the age of 91. What was the solution to this raging war? 'At last, broken-hearted, I confessed to God my pride, and told him 'Yes, I only want Jesus - not "Jesus plus."' In confessing her pride, and fixing her gaze on Jesus as the one who can meet all our needs, Helen experienced God's peace restored in her heart. longing to know Christ better She felt an increased sense of calling toward missions, and publicly declared during a missionary gathering in North England, “I’ll go anywhere God wants me to, whatever the cost.” When I went up to bed that night, I tried to find Philippians 3 and to read the verse in context. I knew nothing about the Bible; in fact, I was terribly ignorant of anything to do with spiritual things. I had no idea who this man Paul was who had written the chapter, but I just knew as I read the chapter that I wanted to love Jesus as he did. I wanted to love him wholeheartedly. I wanted to love him with all I had — to put him first in everything. In 1973, Helen returned to the UK for health reasons, settling in Northern Ireland. She traveled, wrote several books, and servedas a missionary advocate. On 29 October 1964 she was beaten and raped. Her faith in the Lord was truly tested, and yet her testimony was, ‘God met me with outstretched arms of love. It was an unbelievable experience. He was so utterly there, so totally understanding, his comfort was so complete; and suddenly I knew — I really knew — that his love was unutterably sufficient’ .

Do we trust that God's plans are perfect, and that he uses all our experiences to make us more like him?It was during this latter period, including four years of civil war (1960-64), that Helen, with nine other missionaries, was put under house arrest by rebel forces.
