Personally I will say follow the instructions and you will not go wrong; that includes measuring very carefully, to the instructions, the volumes you mix together. Interesting comment from @phantom on temperature; I have always applied it in a room with a minimum temp. of 20c. XTC-3D is an epoxy resin that mixes by volume rather than weight, which is a lot easier. A very small amount of XTC-3d is needed to coat a 3D print. Certainly for me the first two or three I did were not 100% perfect and I needed some more attempts before I was able to prevent the "runs" appearing.Immediately after drying the model is suitable for further processing. The XTC-3D is great to polish, and there are no problems with painting either. Sanding or painting is not necessary, of course. The model can be simply covered with the resin itself and we will have a then glazy, shiny surface.
