Photo #1) Very carefully remove the hot skillet from oven and place on oven pad or mitt to protect surfaces. Then, carefully use paper towels to coat pan with oil. Be extra careful during this process as the pan will be very hot. Not too far ahead though; López-Alt has done some interesting research on this very subject, and concludes that a rise time of between three and five days is optimal: “Eventually, even at cold temperatures, the yeast will start to produce a large amount of those sour milk aromas, throwing off the flavour of your bread. And there’s an even bigger problem: as the alcohol content and acidity of the dough rises, eventually it gets so high that the yeast simply ceases to operate.” Coat the skillet with oil and cornmeal, then place the rolled out pizza dough in the skillet. Press the dough about 2 inches up the sides of the pan. Shredded mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese: two different types of cheese gives this pizza a delicious depth of flavor.

Be careful not to overload the dough with too many toppings, which can make it difficult for the pizza to cook through. Bake: Bake pizza for 20-25 minutes at 400°F. After the 20 minutes mark, watch the pizza carefully for the last 5 minutes to make sure it does not burn. Preheat Skillet. It is important that you preheat your cast iron skillet in a 500°F oven for 10 minutes before adding the dough. By doing this simple step, it allows the dough to crisp up on the outside of the pizza while keeping the inside soft and tender. Cheese-wise, you can’t beat buffalo mozzarella (note: if you want to use firmer pizza mozzarella, you may need to deploy a blowtorch to help it melt, because it will take longer than the wetter stuff). Sainsbury’s also add parmesan, roasted peppers and cherry tomatoes, but, a few herbs aside, I don’t think it needs anything else for perfection. Eat immediately, and certainly fast enough to burn your tongue: it’s worth it. Perfect frying-pan pizza Pizza is perfect all on it’s own and doesn’t need any sides, however there are a few classic ideas that we gravitate towards if we are having company over and want a more rounded meal.

If you have never had a cast iron pizza before, it really is a whole new level of pizza! The cast iron skillet gets perfectly hot and makes an amazing deep dish pizza, with perfectly soft dough, that has those irrestiable crispy brown edges. Room Temperature Dough. Take the dough out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before. Pizza dough can be out anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the dough is room temperature it is so much easier to work with. Pizza Dough: Over the years I have tried so many different pizza doughs. But so far my favorite doughs for the best flavor and crisp texture aren’t homemade. I use Whole Foods pre-made pizza dough, buy dough from my local pizza shop, or use this pizza dough kit by Delallo. This delallo pizza kit has given us the most impressive and authentic pizza dough yet! Highly recommend it. Top each pizza with about ½ to ¾ cup of pizza sauce, spreading it all the way to the edges of the crust. Sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella cheese all the way to the edges of the pizza to create a caramelized edge crust. Top with the your favorite toppings and sprinkle each pizza with parmesan cheese.

Pizza dough: use a ball of store-bought dough for convenience (often found in the deli section at the grocery store), or make your own homemade dough. Photo #3) Use hands to carefully form dough into circle to fit pan. No need to form a “crust”– it will naturally rise on its own. When it comes down to it, the recipe below is almost exactly the same as my basic pizza dough recipe that is HUGELY popular on here and gets thousands of visits a day! But it's the tiniest change to the recipe and some specific differences in the technique that create a whole different pizza experience that is a game-changer if you love deep dish pizza like I do. Different meats: use any combination of meats that you prefer. Good options include diced ham, cooked bacon, or the Italian sausage and pepperoni shown here.

Supreme: pepperoni, canadian bacon, cooked mild Italian sausage, chopped green peppers, chopped onions, sliced mushrooms, and olives
