About this deal

The effectiveness of cooling solutions is dependent upon a number of factors, including ambient air temperature and the configuration of the system, components and cooling solution. It is the users’ obligation to ensure operation of the processor within the applicable AMD product specifications. If we are being forthright, this is not our favorite Threadripper Pro part, and perhaps that is the point. The Threadripper Pro 3975WX and 3995WX provide significantly more performance that is likely better balanced with the platform capabilities. At the same time, those are significantly more expensive parts and not practical for every application. AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX During that time, we were sampled one of these workstations for review, and it still remains one of the best modular systems I’ve ever tested: The final Threadripper Pro processor, the 3945WX, does not have a price, because AMD is not making it available at retail. This part is for selected OEM customers only it seems; perhaps the limited substrate resources in the market right now makes it unappealing to make too many of these? Hard to say. Motherboards: Beware!

First Tests: AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper Pro, New Muscle in

Computers are my lifelong obsession. I wrote my first laptop review in 2005 for NotebookReview.com, continued with a consistent PC-reviewing gig at Computer Shopper in 2014, and moved to PCMag in 2018. Here, I test and review the latest high-performance laptops and desktops, and sometimes a key core PC component or two. I also review enterprise computing solutions for StorageReview. Digital Storm Aventum X: Aventum X by digital storm is a new CPU processor that all professionals love due to its exceptional results and blazing speed. It comes with a pre-installed Ryzen 3955wx pro that enhances the speed of the amd ryzen threadripper pro 3955wx 16-core 32-thread desktop processor and boosts the result expectations. With exceptional horsepower, the Aventum x has a great cooling system that impacts the desktop processors concerning the workloads. It holds all the workload evenly and gives the best results. It is also not the only configuration AMD has for a 16-core Zen2 CPU. Here is an example from our AMD EPYC 7F52 review where you can see a significantly different layout. AMD EPYC 7F52 Topology The above benchmark can help users find integrated graphics of all processors with specifications concerning their applications from single and multi-threaded measurements. The 16-core and 32-thread desktop processor has gained much attention through its benchmark reading and is admired by all users because of its hierarchy ranks. What AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955wx Used For?

Though the Ryzen Threadripper Pro’s Zen 2 architecture isn’t AMD’s latest and greatest—Zen 3 came out just in the final quarter of 2020—it still compares more than favorably with Intel’s “Cascade Lake” Xeon chips. Our results show that it punches above its weight, offering more per-core performance than Intel’s chips, and, as you can see in our Lenovo ThinkStation P620 review, at a comparable price-per-core. The Intel Xeon W-2295 is perhaps the closest competitor with 18 cores. At the same time, it has less memory capacity and is still a PCIe Gen3 part with fewer lanes. In some tests, the extra cores and single die design flourishes, but the majority of our readers will prefer the larger AMD platform in this workstation segment. Of course, this is effectively comparing the highest-end part from that Intel series versus the low-end part from the AMD series.

Architecture: AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper PRO 3995WX processors can help accelerate typical architectural workflows such as editing point clouds, rendering designs, and creating virtual simulations. 1 Their fast cycle times, for example, can boost productivity on lightly threaded 3D modeling jobs, while the high core count can mean faster rendering output. 2 AMD hit the market with four distinct versions of AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO processors with varying core and thread counts to serve a variety of businesses and users. To ensure support for everyone, Lenovo launched multiple models of the ThinkStation P620 Tower Workstation, each sporting a different Threadripper PRO CPU. No single Xeon W-class chip matches the 32-core/64-thread Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3975WX in core and thread count, so that leaves the job up to Intel’s scalable Xeon line, specifically the Xeon Gold and Platinum chips with 16 or more cores. Two of them can be used in a dual-CPU workstation to achieve equivalent core and thread counts, though as of this writing, I was unable to find a dual-CPU Intel tower workstation that supported more than a total of 56 cores and 112 threads (two 28-core/56-thread chips), leaving the monster 64-core/128-thread Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX in a class of its own. While the AMD Ryzen series has up to 16 cores, the reason one gets the Threadripper Pro over a Ryzen part is not purely core count. With Threadripper Pro we get vendor/ platform supported ECC RDIMM support with 8-channel memory. That means we get ECC as well as more memory capacity. Beyond the memory side, we also get a much larger I/O footprint since this is based on an EPYC 7002 layout with a chipset. If you simply need connectivity then the Threadripper Pro goes well beyond the capabilities of the Ryzen series despite an overlapping core count.Based on AMD performance lab testing using the Adobe After Effects CC benchmark test to compare the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995X reference system to (2) Intel Xeon Platinum 8280 processors. Results may vary. (CPP-25) When AMD embarked upon its journey with the new Ryzen portfolio, the delineation of where each product sat in the traditional market has not always been entirely clear. The first generation Ryzen was earmarked for standard consumers, however the top of the line Ryzen 7 1800X, with eight cores, competed against Intel’s high-end desktop market. The Zen 2-based portfolio saw the mainstream Ryzen go to 16 cores, pushing past Intel’s best 18-core HEDT processor at the time in most tests. That Zen 2-based Ryzen 9 3950X was still classified as a ‘mainstream platform’ processor, as it only had 24 PCIe lanes and dual-channel memory, sufficient for mainstream users but not enough for workstation markets. These mainstream processors were also limited to 105W TDP. Manufacturing: For busy engineers, the AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper PRO 3995WX processor can reduce simulation 1 and render times 2 to get more things done. Slicer software for 3D printing, for example, is multi-threaded and benefits from having multiple available cores. Design modeling uses fewer cores but gains from the CPU's fast cycle times. For the Threadripper Pro 3955WX, pay special attention, across the charts, to the comparison numbers served up by these four chips: What we can see here is that the 3955WX has four cores sharing 16MB L3 cache segments. Four of those give us 16 cores and 64MB of L3 cache. This looks fairly similar to the AMD EPYC 7282 configuration: AMD EPYC 7282 Topology Example

Many thanks to Kingston for supplying a full set of KSM32RD8/16MEI - 16x16GB of DDR4-3200 ECC RDIMMs for enterprise testing in systems like Threadripper Pro. Based on AMD performance lab testing on January 31, 2022, using the Luxion Keyshot viewer benchmark to compare performance of an AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX reference system configured with 8x32GB DDR4, NVIDIA Quadro RTX A5000, 1TB SSD, Win 11 vs. a similarly configured BOXX APEXX4 workstation with an Intel® Xeon® W-3375 Results may vary. CGP-20 Originally, I bought 4x64 GB ECC RDIMM because I thought 256 GB might be enough, and I wanted to leave some empty RAM slots to populate with 128 GB RDIMMs if those ever became cost-effective. (Right now, 128 GB RDIMMs are about triple the price of 64 GB.) Technology companies are now introducing new PCs with Ryzen thread rippers installed. Some of them have this amd ryzen threadripper pro 3955wx 16-cores, 32-thread CPU processor in them. The main goal of this review is to test all of the Threadripper Pro 3000 hardware and compare against the equivalent Threadripper 3000 to get a sense of how much performance is gained by the increased memory bandwidth, or lost due to the slight core frequency differences. We are also including Intel’s best HEDT/workstation processor for comparison, the W-3175X, as well as the top consumer-grade processors on the market. All systems are tested at JEDEC specifications. Test SetupMikewind Dale - Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - link I have a ThreadRipper Pro 3955WX, and I discovered something interesting about the memory bandwidth. At this point, I had 6 DIMMs populated. CPU-Z and AIDA64 both reported "hexa" channel memory, but AIDA64's memory benchmarks showed that my memory performance was about 2/3 that of a Ryzen. The super high frequency of the desktop processor also reduces the period of sharing and analyzing data. The 128 PCIe 4.0 express lanes support the processor on all compatible devices. It also helps all experts in multitasking demanded applications. These are the only workstation processors that support PCIe 4.0 for new generation graphics and NVMe storage.
